All those haters out there... see, Valve doesn't want us to have to wait 6 months, they are doing this for the community. I for one will support them 100%. They have the online distro rights, so as long as they don't offer CS:Source as a standalone retail package shouldn't be treading on VU's toes.
CS: Source Release Imminent!!!

Oh boy. VU can NOT bring this up as a criminal case since this is a contract dispute. In any case, Gabe Newell is not liable, as Valve is an LLC like most corporations. This is a case of corporation vs. corporation - there is no "jury of peers."
A jury is there for a finding of FACT, not a finding of LAW. This is a contract dispute - the facts are not in dispute. And even if they were, it is not up to a jury to determine the finding of fact in a case such as this.Comment

actually businesses big and small get picked on because they are viewed as an evil corp. trying to take advantage of an innocent consumer. not fair, but it happens.
VU can OWN valve back in court. With jury case, Vivendi can shut down Steam and nullify all Steam purchases AND take all of valve's profits. They will easily win, because the hypocritical public almost always rules in favor of CEO's and large corporations.
History shows us that the Corporation's and CEO's only lose jury cases when said defendents are innocent.
valve is up shits creek without a paddle.Comment

Splatula, you don't know what the hell you're talking about. You speak as a fanboy, not someone who has the slightest understanding of business.
I was just thinking, does anyone else feel that Valve is breaking it off in the retail chains? I keep seeing people here and other places say they are canceling their pre-orders at places like Amazon, Gamestop, Comp, etc. I would love to know what the sales impact for these retailers is. That seems pretty messed up.
I'm going to predict an announcement from VU tomorrow (Friday the 30th). Watch and remember when I'm right.Comment

If Va really wanted to stick it to VU they would offer a CS:S option on its own. (I know I got 1 week from hl single player but 5 years from cs)
Note that CS:S could be an entirely separate product if Va wanted it to be, it seems VU only have agreements covering HL2 (could be other obligations I havn't heard about though). By not putting any multiplayer in HL2 Va will split the market for HL2 standalone and bring VU to the negotiating table. More copies of HL2 will sell if CS:S is included.
Now if Va took CS:S retail without VU that would really piss off VU!Comment

Yes. So it is...
Friday is on the 1st... just as an FYI.
I haven't had an off day in a while and I honestly didn't even know what day this is, I just show up and work.bartlisa wrote..
Apparently not, since it's part of ALL the retail and online packages.

Bottom line, I expect VU to make the announcement along with the prices before Friday and then they'll just hammer each other in court after the fact.
But this early announcement hurt the most innocent party of all, retailers. And that isn't right.Comment
