CS: Source Release Imminent!!!

Ok. Does Valve have a death wish or something here?



Despite certain fanboys shitting themselves earlier in this thread, lets put this in a realistic perspective with regards to the recent news regarding the VU/Valve battle.



To recap: VU is righteously pissed that they will lose revenue due to Valve selling direct. A legal storm is brewing with both sides holding guns to each others head. VU says they have the right to hold things up for 6 months in what seems to be an effort to make Valve abandon selling the product on the platform that Big Boy's wet dreams are built on (Steam). Valve says that there won't be significant enough sales on Steam for this to be an issue (a damn weak defense). So now Valve has pulled their trigger and said they will release part of the package that will be part of HL2. Surely VU is going to go off the deep end about this. Valve has blatently complicated the issue even more by leveraging CS:S to drive people to buy the game direct via the shit known as Steam.



Now we have this anouncement, with no prices and no hard date. It's almost as if Valve is flipping VU a bird at this point. Without knowing the details of their agreement (at least, I don't think anyone outside the parties involved do), is it now possible for VU to seek an injunction to stop this? It very well could be possible (insert bitching about the legal system here).



This could very well get really nasty. Nasty indeed. Considering Valves history, I for one am VERY hesitant to shell out a DIME until the product is 100% delivered and not a damn moment earlier.



I would suggest everyone else hold up on the party because the shit may very well be about to hit the fan now.

Don't get me wrong. I hope everything is fine because I want to play a good multiplayer game made this century, not last. It's not uncommon in the entertainment world for parties involved in a lawsuit to go ahead with the show and sort out the money dispute later. Happens all the time. It's also possible they worked something out and didn't say anything because it's none of our damn business. But it's also possible Valve is digging a grave here and making themselves look bad before a judge. Valve is banking on Steam (unfortunately; I hate that piece of shit), and if VU has the rights to publish the game, they shouldn't have to give up on the revenue for that game if in fact that is what is in the contract before Steam even existed (which we don't know for sure).



Anyway. Fuck it. I don't think this bizarre drama is over yet. It seems strange, but we'll see in the next few weeks one way or the other. But no prices is odd...
