I played HLDM very rarely until I found TFC and just ran with that. Then I moved onto CS of course.

You guys already know that some mod team out there will undoubtedly make a HL2DM.

[i understand valve did a lot of work on hl2 and counter strike source and if people request the hl2 death match to valve I'm sure valve will start working to making that mod for sure

this is pretty old news why is everyone so surprised?
Seconded. They officially announced this at the E3, if not earlier.

But I say good for Valve for not trying to make HL2 into something that was good for both play modes and excelled at neither.
      Well said.

eh.... vehicles would have been awesome...

i wouldn't have minded if they made a Halo clone for HL2 MP... that would have actually been fun (dune buggy = wort hog)!

U guys seem to forget that VALVe could release a deathmatch mode and source versions of DoD and TFC through STEAM.

Just because counter-strike is the most popular Half-Life mod out there doesent mean it should be the official Half-Life 2 multiplayer. Is Counter-Strike fun? Hell yes. But is Day of Defeat, the second most played Half-Life mod fun too? Definetely.

By making Counter-Strike source the official Half-Life 2 multiplayer, Valve is smacking all the fans of other Half-Life mods. If Half-Life 2 came with its own deathmatch, then there would not be a "favourite" mod that would become Half-Life 2's multiplayer. Half-Life 2's multiplayer would just be deathmatch.

Don't worry, DoD:S, HL2DM will be created by some mod team or another, and then the amateur project will become the official Valve mod. Just like CS and DoD.

I'd also like to add that Counter-Strike source being Half-Life 2's multiplayer would be kind of awkward. They are two completely different games. The only similarity is that they both run on the Source engine.

Shrug someone will probably make a hl2dm mod. I dont think it would be that hard.

Besides, hl2dm and cs:s will be old news once TF2 comes out. THAT'S RIGHT LADIES, TF2 COME TO PAPPA.

You realize there's also going to be DoD:Source, TFC: Source, and possibly the deathmatch from the original HL1 since HL is being ported over to Source (Just my speculation though).

It's just that CS: Source is the only multiplayer that will be shipping at launch with HL2.

I just want to play deathmatch with Half-Life 2 and the awesome source engine. It seems stupid that Valve isnt going to do this. Theyve got a great game, Counter-Strike source, but Half-Life 2 deserves its own official deathmatch model.

and i don't see why it can't be that way? long as the thing is fun I don't think the fact that CS:S is nothing related to HL2 (cept for the fact that it uses the same engine of course) really matters.
