CS: Source is Half-Life 2's Multiplayer

An exclusive interview over at Halflife2.net starts to shed some light on the multiplayer situation for Half-Life 2. PC Gamer's Senior Editor, Chuck Osborn, provides a bit of insight on what to expect in the upcoming issue of PC Gamer.



He confirms that, at least for the time being, Counter-Strike: Source is the only multiplayer component for Half-Life 2 upon its release.

This comment may be predictable from a CSNation reader, but it always seemed to me that players of the original HalfLife engine were happy to jump ship to multiplayer mods, once they became available. The single-player component just wasn't as good for multiplayer as something designed for multiplayer from the ground up, and it showed.



Of course there will be some old-timers who enjoyed playing the old HL deathmatch that will fuss. But I say good for Valve for not trying to make HL2 into something that was good for both play modes and excelled at neither. I'm sure a lot of complainers will be silenced by pointing out that the more developers Valve pared away from HL2 and CS:S to work on HL2-deathmatch, the longer it would have taken to get any of the games into our hands.

i guess there will be a "half-life 2 multiplayer", it will just be CS:Source only for now. when the "hl2 multplayer" does come, will it be free after we buy hl2 & cs:source?

Personally I never play HLDM anymore, played it for 5 mins then went off to CS (I'm a 1.3) and I doubt it'd be that much different for HL2, maybe 2 weeks before I would go to CS:S so there's not much loss

Who really cares with all the mods that are gonna come out... only ppl disapointed will be the ones who actually play HLDM... and they'll prolly come up with it anyway. How hard can it be to make a mod that actually requires only models from the actual game... I guess.

I played HLDM very rarely until I found TFC and just ran with that. Then I moved onto CS of course.



You guys already know that some mod team out there will undoubtedly make a HL2DM.
