The CE definitally isn't worth it. The only extra thing you get is a guide (who int he hell uses them?), shirt (huge xl that a lot of people can't wear), and the origional game ported to the new engine. This is nothing but a sales gimmick.

HL:S doesn't even matter anyway. It going to be the same old HL with the same old graphics with rag doll and nicer water. I bet that someone will port over HL to the source engine anyway... plus they will probobally add the awesome new models so it will be even better.

Hopefully VALVe will release a non-Collectors Edition DVD version of the regular retail version.
Yes, because this Collectors Edition doesn't seem all that collectable.

Edit: And, you guys out there that freak out when PC Gamer has a DVD disc instead of a CD, or when games like HL2 are announced they'll also come in a DVD version, just go with the flow man. You're really holding us up. I don't want Far Cry on 5 cd's! A DVD-ROM is like 20 bucks, a DVD burner 60. These aren't exhorbitant or unrealistic prices. I really don't see the aversion to them other than stubborness.

Exactly what I'm talking about. Why make it a CD? If you'll pay $84.79 for a game, is $20 plus 15 minutes of your time too much to ask?

Seriously, DVD-Rom drives are very cheap. I see them for $39.99 CAD _everywhere_. I bought one from a friend for $5 usd. Imo it might be worth it with all these new games coming out on dvd.

Wasn't the collector's edition box suppose to be wrapped in leather? Valve lied again!!

Probably. I'm not sure how expensive the preorder is but I think HL2 will be around $50. So unless the Prima book is $30, and that'd be a giant ripoff, you're pretty safe.

With the CE, you're basically paying extra for a shirt, a book, and a box. I expect HL:S will be nothing special, and if you MUST have it, I don't think there's any legalities that can keep someone from distributing the game for free with a different name. Vavle/VU know fanboys will jump on the CE though, so it's a smart way to milk the game even in it's beginnings. I bet half the people who buy the CE will also buy a normal copy.
Good post. You guys wonna hear something that will make you be pissed off?

I Pre-Ordered my Half Life 2 + Bonus Item (HL2 T-Shirt) for only $53.99 with tax already included in the price.

So If I buy Prima Book, which will certainly cost $20-$30, it will all add up to CE. Once again, I have money to buy CE, just think it is not worth it. Plus the DVD drive I have around the house is just too lazy to install itself into my computer! ^___^

I'd rather pay 20 bucks for a DVD-Rom rather than switching out 8 cd's to install.

XL isn't my size... I can wear it but I hate baggy clothes.

I hope there's some way of getting HL: Source without buying the CE.

I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't have a dvd drive in their pc nowadays.

I don't have a DVD drive. Anyways, will the "normal" HL2 have the game on DVD or on an ordinary CD?
