What is "The Lost Coast?"



The Lost Coast is something else Valve forgot to do in the 6 years they had to work on HL2. Therefore, they release it as an "Expansion", and as hyped as this has been, let's just say it was... mediocre. That said, I would like to know of any valid reasons as to why they are worrying about releasing "Expansions" when the products they already have out are rittled with problems. Learn to walk before you fly guys, or else your feet won't work when you come back down to land.

Fixing problems doesn't get you any money. Releasing a mediocre expansion pack and slapping the HL2 name on it gets you lots of money.

While I'm disappointed I won't be able to play it, it's still nice that Valve are pushing technology further instead of just sitting on the big piles of cash that HL2 brought. A year or two down the line and this technology will be standard.

Damn right! I don't understand why people keep bitching about it. Instead of sitting on their money piles, reading their statements from their high interest off-shore bank accounts, they are actually going into work to try and fix problems regularly. On top of this they are releasing new material with new technology and not charging for it. I know there are a few other companies that do this (not many), but there are hundreds of other game companies that release a game, perhaps release a couple of patches, and then just sit on their ass.

Stop moaning everyone.

You're Welcome! Why the hell do you think I'd come crying for attention in an internet video game forum? Do you think I really care if you guys hate me or not? Well, seeing as how I'll never come in physical contact with any of you, no, I don't. I get more attention than I particularly want in real life (if you stand up, walk to a window, and look out of it you can catch your first glimpse of real life!), and even if I didn't I wouldn't try to get the attention I needed online. That's stupid, pansy, and pointless. Just because my posts are inflammatory doesn't mean I'm an attention whore. Somewhere you seemed to have confused a multi-level, story-driven expansion or mission pack with a small, playable tech demo. But good grammar. Idiot.

If you or anyone you know has purchased a video card for the sake of playing the Lost Coast tech demo, you all should do us a favor and and cut yourself. You're just as guilty by associating with idiots like that as you are by actually committing such an act of flaming stupidity.





FOR THE LAST TIME. THIS IS A TECH DEMO THAT'S AVAILABLE TO PEOPLE WHO HAPPEN TO HAVE THE HARDWARE TO PLAY IT. IT'S NOT AN EXPANSION; IT DOESN'T ADD TO THE STORY!! Think of it as me making a map with an ungodly number of shaders and polygons. I'll call it "The Lost Doom 3 Polygons." Unfortunately, most of you won't be able to handle the awesome power of my map. But will you bitch about it? No. It's a free mod. If you can't play it, that sucks for you. But when Valve does essentially the same thing you bitch about it as an expansion that only certain people can play. Well I am getting a new motherboard and a whole new rig basically to be able to play HL2 with HDR at 80 fps. I would like that "eye candy". I guess a couple fuck sticks just can't handle the fact that thier mommies won't buy them a X850. Well fine, I'll just let you go back to 1.6 and scream "faggot" in the mic all day until your dad wants head or something. Not my problem. Hitman is right on the money. This is something everyone will want, and not everyone will get. Period.

Obviously anybody with HL2 will be able to download it, but real HDR is a dx9 function and you need a dx9 capable gfxcard to even try it, regardless of how fast it runs, you can't make applepie from bananas.

This means no mx cards will have the hardware to run it, even at 1fps, it's simply not in the hardware.
