I'd rather play the level at 10 fps than not at all. I think a majority of the people who play HL2 have midrange hardware and may not be able to get the tech demo. But really its not a big deal, can someone who saw videos on it comment?

I remember hearing about this back when I had my 9500 Pro setup. I thought "Well, that's the way it goes. Same reason I can't play Doom III at kickass max settings. No problem."



I have a 6800gtoc now. As such, I get the perks. How dare I. Scandelous.

I think in such cases of severe stupidity, it is acceptable. You aren't always a murderer if you shoot and kill someone. (IE Self-Defense, Maybe you're a cop on a raid, etc.)

Anyway, to respond to urban terror's comment, HDR lighting doesn't look very much different. It doesn't change much other than making light less straightforward. For example, the light actually bounces off of materials now instead of just hitting something and stopping. It makes things slightly glow and that's about it. There's a farcry addon featuring HDR lighting.



It takes a ton of power, though, but it doesn't look too great.

Far Cry has HDR implemented into it, though it slows the render rate considerably. (HDR complexity it adjustable from 1 to 10 levels though.)



HDR is one of those things that you will spend all of 8 seconds impressed about how pretty it is, then will never notice again, especially since it has no bearing on gameplay.

Really, the only thing noticable from HDR Lighting is that things are brighter. If Doom III had it, it would be a disaster because it would reflect off of the metal and the flashlight would be useless.

Shit, this is technology of the future. Lombardi is right, lighting is going to take some huge strides very soon. Don't you think this kind of thing is going to be a big part of games in the future?

I formyself also have 6800GT, and damn proud of it. Had to wait entire year of savings to get it, and if you are lazy enough to not to work for it, yet bitch about it how you don't have it AND say HDR sucks, then you might as well get under a freaking rock and live there and never come out again, cause you already fell behind and theres very little chances you'll cathc up.
