Half-Life 2 will begin preloading tonight according to a post by Gabe Newell on the Half-Life 2 Fallout forums. Slated to begin at 6 PM PDT, the preload will likely require user confirmation. Contained in this preload will be data like textures and sounds that are unlikely to change during the remaining weeks (or months) of Half-Life 2's development cycle. The preload will only benefit users who plan on purchasing Half-Life 2 through Steam, Valve's content delivery system.

Holy cow Batman!
So if HL2 preloads tonight...
I wonder how close we are to the actual HL2 release...?
I went to a Gamestop, I asked for the release date, the store clerk laughed for a minute, then he told me the date they gave him was November.
And screw buying HL2 on Steam. I'd rather have a nice shiny tin or whatever they plan for the collector's edition.Comment
