Which is cheating, yes.

just like having better fps, a better monitor, better mouse, better ping, etc, all advantages in their own right. unless were all playing on exactly the same hardwrae with exactly the same setup then no game will be 100% fair.
but keep preaching your "this is a cheat". bet ur one of the ppl who thinks "ex_interp" is a cheat too. sad..
-:Nighthawk:- wrote..the way he started the article seems like he's evaluated other clans 'playbook' strats. I'm not really sure though if that is the case and just this one seems to be getting more attention or what. But if this was a one time only thing then i'm skeptical, if not well then it's not, but still you did mention an interesting point.
I think these comments are about Rival's playbook, not about whether boosting your sounds (or using A3D for that matter... I've heard that makes pretty large differences in how far you hear things, but it could easily be a rumor) is a cheat or not.
So yeah, looks like gotfrag decided to save a lot of clans a lot of time, and analyzed the strats for them. Kind of like a coach would do for a team, except it's more like a coach doing it against a team, in the hopes of making them easier to take down in the future. Not saying that this was ChrisB's intent, and anyone could have studied Rival for themselves, but how many would have? Just a thought, and interesting nonetheless.

well its up to valve to lock down the game. customising it is just inviting for someone to exploit it :)

Actually cliffe said that was bogus.
-:Nighthawk:- wrote..Actually, it fits right in. The grenade toss that Rival does in the mentioned strat evidently takes advantage of a sound glitch in the map making the nade silent while making the sound of the "victim" heard. When I started playing in leagues, we played fair, we didn't look for or use any glitches and try to undermine the game. You know what? It was fun back then for the winners as well as the losers. Now, it's all about winning at any cost to the point that "vent" is now used instead of the in-game communication just so the dead can talk to the living. League play sucks now...all of them. It's now about who has the edge...not in true talent...but in knowing exploits and work-arounds of the games default settings.

MorgaN6 wrote..that may be be the biggest load of self-indulgent, egotistical nonsense ever, but it works :) and so few people exploit this that its not really defined as a cheat, yet.
