    Yay shadow tearing is fixed

Now fix the server browser using CS as its settings (thus not saving), people not being able to play, add aztec, remodel the mp5+few pistols and fix the new c4 bug and were set.

I wonder when they are gonna fix the ability to wall-walk (quite easily) on the new dust. All they need to do is scoot the box by the site over a few inches.

I have to keep reminding myself that we aren't really supposed to be testing maps on Source. We are supposed to be testing the Source engine in multiplayer. I tend to briefly forget that. Someone else brought that up and he's right. That's why little things that bother me, I have to learn to deal with. Those little nagging things aren't necessarily going to be in the finished product anyway.

good job valve? It's nice to see that they've released another update so soon, but has anyone actually benefitted from this?

I was perfectly fine before, now my game crashes to windows nearly everytime I join a server-- i'm not even bothering with it now. Also of course my screen is messed up because I can't adjust my refresh rate.

This last update has made the game even laggier for me (netwise). I now have some sort of "movement lag". It's more apparent when going from one type of movement to another (IE: run, then duck, and then to strafe), but I even get it when just plain running forward. It feels like I'm being "pulled back" to my immediate previous position or something. It's so annoying. If you ask people on the servers, alot of them are experiencing it too. I really hope this Source engine multiplayer beta testing pays off. Playing like this makes me feel like I'm back on 56K :|

I think I'm actually experiencing fewer crashes when joining servers than before...I'd say overall the beta is paying off, but of course some work still has to be done.

It's not just me, take a look over at the steampowered forums (if you dare), there's loads of people having problems with this crashing to desktop problem.

An this is unrelated, but I don't mind playing on just dust-- this version is really well made, I hope this quality is standard for the rest of the maps.

It is for those who own CZ or with an ATI voucher, and for those in the cyber cafe program. If you don't own those, no need to complain.

Maybe it's just me, but this update seems to have done more good than it's done bad for people. At least in my case these two updates fixed the only crashing problems I noticed (the base animating error thing and the sometimes seen crash to desktop without error when joining a server).

the beta will be done and over with in another two or some weeks, and should see a public release in gold form sometime thereafter.

i've been playing the beta all weekend. it's fun, but i can only take so many rounds of dust before it starts to get repetitive. aside from getting a feel for the new engine, i'm trying to approach it on valve's terms, as a beta tester. which for me is trying to mix up all the different possible scenarios the game has to offer in order to find bugs.

oh and btw, this is an open beta. it's just not open to everyone and their mother.

Try putting "-window" (without the quotes) in the Launch Options sections of the CS:S properties dialogue in Steam. Then you won't have to mess with sync issues, because it's not full-screen.

Odds are you don't own CS:CZ or a HL2 voucher, or if you do, you haven't entered those keys into Steam yet.

turns out the pixel dimensions aren't limited, but the file size is limited to 130kb. that means 256x256 sprays work fine. :)
Good to know. Still limited to multiples of 16 for the size?

Also, gravity has absolutely no bearing on any objects or dead bodies. Barrels fly/roll the same at 0 gravity as they do with 800 gravity. Bodies fall at 0 gravity, and if someone is killed by a grenade, they fly the same at 0 gravity as they do at 800 gravity. That's kind of dissapointing. Hopefully it can be fixed/changed while CS:S is still in beta.
It seems like this aspect would be fairly easy to change... simply update the client's physics equations whenever the server changes gravity settings / on connect. But I suppose the ease of changing that depends on how hard-coded the equations are, or if there's room to just modify an existing variable.

I wish the bodys were the same for everyone. Theres been times where I was below some steps shooting up at a CT but a dead body was in the way and I hit that instead. I wonder what it does when there is a body in the way for one person, but not the other?
I'm gonna have to play with this more. I mean, is this saying that when I come up to the 'naded body of a foe and start raping them / shooting their head/balls, then other people might see me just standing over empty ground for some odd reason?

Maybe it's not all server decided, but I'd bet at least part of it is controlled by the server, much like hit detection is. Afterall, a body can't transition into ragdoll effects until they've been hit with gunfire / explosion, right? That much has to be decided by the server, so I'd assume the basics of what happens with the body is decided by the server as well (basic direction/velocity of body) and maybe the rest left up to the client (how to move the arms and interact with the other objects and such). Like I said though, I haven't really tested it much, so I dunno.

It's sometimes the nature of fixes that they solve problems for some, but create a few new ones for a few other people that have to be resolved later. Have you tried all the normal methods posted on Steampowered for helping reduce the chance of crashing to desktop?

Also, everyone can adjust their refresh rate, it's just a matter of using the right tool.

I get this effect sometimes too, but I'm not sure if it's the physics engine interfering, or if it's simply lousy servers. When other people are bumping into me while running, it's that much worse, but that's been around since they fixed the running together bug waaay back when.

Why? There are already a ton of people in the beta, more than enough to get a great testing of various system configurations, without being the entire community, and thus overwhelming the bug reporting system. A late beta can handle being open perhaps, when the bugs are pretty much all gone and you're looking for just those last few problems / balance issues. At this point, though, it'd just overwhelm the system and cause more problems than it would help.

Besides, it probably boosted sales of CS:CZ, eh? :P
