    Cliffe & Lombo Q&A

Jess Cliffe and Doug Lombardi — both of Valve — sat down with Computer And Video Games for an interview. Nothing new or exciting in this interview (except that HL1 Source will be available at HL2's launch), but at least the name of the site is original:
The engine change is big bananas, but outside of that what fundamental changes, if any, are you making to the core Counter-Strike experience with Counter-Strike Source?

    Cliffe:
The engine upgrade is very exciting for us since it's not just big bananas; it's big bananas that react with other bananas, split apart in a realistic way, obey the laws of physics, and indeed look like real bananas. These are big bananas that you can trip and fall on. For the initial release of Counter-Strike Source, we want to keep the CS experience intact. This means that at first we just want to make the engine leap and then we can go from there in terms of new gameplay and features.
Click here with your banana for a true banana-peeling experience.

Cliffe is totally hinting at banana peel slippage in an updated Source map, totally.

He's going to push that engine to the limits!

Having read the interview a little bit ago, nothing really new, but still a worthwhile compilation of info.

Will the actual fruit itself be available?

Pshh, watermelon? Bananas are full of energy. Although I guess you could spit the watermelon seeds at people.

Heh, I was just going to say that :p

I'm sure someone will make some weird mod or tweak to include a "banana peel fun mode" or something.

Hmm... just noticed that HL1: Source is also coming out at the same time as HL2 and CS: Source. How I missed that the first time reading I'll never know. Glad to see it though.

The source being released is a good and a bad thing. Will be interesting to see what moder's can do with the full source at their disposal, but at the same time, hackers will be able to do as they wish as well.

                            Hey cliffe,

Previously you've stated that the Source engine can manage maps 10x the size of HL1 maps. Is this done by uping a the previous constraint or are there some geometry optmizations you guy are using to enable larger sized maps?

                            thanks
