Those awaiting the upcoming ATI/CZ BETA test for CS: Source may want to keep an eye on the new section.

So we have the Cafes playing, while everyone sits here doing nothing. How about you start preloading for us now and when your ready activate it, why have this huge audience of fans sitting here twiddling our thumbs when we could be testing?

Yes I agree, if it is good enough for cafe's, its good enough for us!
Anyway, as far as making money and business by giving cyber cafe's using Steam CS:S before us, I think its not a very good idea. I for one, dont know anyone who is going to go to one of those few cafe's to play CS:S. And cafe's these days dont want to pay 10 dollars a month per PC using Steam and CS 1.6, when they can still play 1.5 over lan for free, as well as other games like COD and BF 1942.Comment

I can see why VALVe is releasing it to cafe's first. You know how many people are going to jump at the opportunity? The timing is just perfect - cafes will see an increase in the audience due to this exclusive beta (for a week or so) and people will then go back if they didn't buy CS:CZ. This translates into additional money for VALVe because LAN centres would sign up with their program, or be left behind.Comment

You guys need to think alittle before posting. Releasing to the cafes first is a good way to try out the game on a large scale--if it does well, it goes on to us. It's not preloading now because this current version could possibly have problems with it. Apparently valve thinks that it will be fine though since they've given us a release schedule.Comment

Large scale you say? Ha. I live in California, and cyber cafe's never last more than a few weeks before going out of business. One cafe, and only one does OK, and they only have 20 computers, they don't watch their computers and really don't care about them, and its quite often actually when one of them will "lose" a video card.
I don't know how it is in other places, but in America cyber cafe's generally aren't very good businesses, and there aren't very many of them. If you checked the list Valve provided, there is usually only one or maybe two cyber cafe's in one state, with the exception of bigger states. Say each one has 30 computers, each with CS:S, and the 10 dollar a month per computer fee. And each person plays CS:S for about an hour before they leave. This isn't large scale. This is maybe 100+ people a day playing the game in one single state, and usually it's the same people every day. I think they'd get better responses, and not put cyber cafe's out of business by charging 300 dollars a month for a cafe with 30 computers to use Steam, and still get money by people buying CZ, if they just released the beta to CZ owners already.Comment
