I'm not usually the one to suggest lame-ass boycotts, but seriously, everyone who reads this, play something else. Like.... all week. Or at least at the bare minimum, log off of steam every time you're done. See if we can get some revenge. Otherwise, we can just keep being a giant community of bitches.

A box with buttons that would load IE, AIM, or whatever I wanted the button to do, i even had my own basic chat program. Didn't seem too hard for a 17 year old to do, why would it be so hard for a team of eduimak@ted programmers to make friends network work better?
I do appreciate that you actually contributed to the conversation rather than flaming, but you are contradicting your initial points and missing out on a few.
Steam is not only a "shell" and instant messaging system, it is a content delivery system and manages all the servers within itself. It is one thing to code a game, it is a whole different thing to code a revolutionary method of deliverying/supporting games.
