    AMX v0.9.9 Released

AMXMod development is dead, right? Wrong. The development of this popular Half-Life admin tool has started up again, full steam ahead. With that said, a new version of AMXMod has been released; version 0.9.9. This fairly large release contains many new features and enhancements that will surely bring the original AMXMod back to life. Some new features included are a multilingual system and a Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler which will decrease plugin execution times significantly. A full list of changes is available below.

Want to control your server better? Maybe add some new, fun things? Well, then what are you waiting for? Download this new version now![break="changelog"]
      core:

    • added the just-in-time (jit) compiler for windows and linux; this allows plugins to be executed 10+ times faster (can be disabled globally or for specific plugins).

this is thanks to the nasm port (used for both windows and linux versions) by g.w.m. vissers from eternal lands.

    • added the multilingual support: each player can have amx displaying messages in a different language (currently supported in the default plugins: english, french — feel free to add more), see the documentation for more details.

    • upgraded compuphase's smallc core to v2.6: it is recommended to recompile all your plugins with the new compiler (not compulsory though).

    • reverted back to 0.9.3's modules management: they have to be declared both in metamod and amx again.

    • new interface version for modules (those compiled before will not work):

now modules can know if a plugin is paused (and the use of this feature is highly recommended for those implementing forwards)

modules using amx_raiseerror will have to #define module_name, so that amx can be more verbose when run-time errors occur

one more parameter must be added to load_amxscript calls (1: try to use jit, 0: don't)

    • fixed the use of the 'amx_basedir' localinfo (now amx can really be run from another directory than addons/amx)

    • fixed csstats not returning weapon names on first map

      directories:

    • config files (*.ini, *.cfg, *.txt) have moved from addons/amx to addons/amx/config (including plugins.ini)

    • modules (*.dll, *.so) have moved from addons/amx/dlls to addons/amx/modules (now only amx is in addons/amx/dlls)

      notes:

csstats' data file csstats.dat has moved to amx/modules as well

you don't have to specify the path anymore in modules.ini

      provided binaries:

    • added metamod to the default package with a sample plugins.ini file

    • added one third-party module to the default package: vexd 0.9.9 (disabled by default) (plugins using this one must be recompiled)

      plugins:

    • fixed scrollmsg and imessage plugins so that %hostname% works correctly with steam servers

    • added statsx, an improvement by xad from the previous stats plugin (which has been removed)

    • added mapconfig, allowing to have custom map config files

    • default plugin 'admincmd' (admin commands) do not provide amx_banid and amx_banip anymore, now amx_ban can ban users (by authid or ip), authids and ips itself

    • rearranged the plugins sources directory structure

      configuration:

    • added csstats info into amx.cfg for rank tracking and resetting

    • added more examples, info and recommendations into users.ini

    • enabled popular csstats features by default in stats.ini:

      say /statsme, /rank, /top15, /stats, /hp

show attackers, victims, killer, killer hp&ap

show stats at end of map

(do not manually edit: use 'amx_statscfg' or 'amx_statscfgmenu')

    • added url for dod xmod into modules.ini

    • added note for disabling plugins into plugins.ini

    • disabled welcomemsg.amx by default for steam version in plugins.ini

Errr thats so much being a cock

Why walk away and say that your not going to support it anymore and then when somebody else takes over pinch all their idea's and support it anyhow.

I'm not associated with AMX Mod-X at all, but I think it stinks and I bet they are going to be pretty rightfully pissed off!

            @ #3,

Show me the post where Olo said he was stopping support? dJeyL is who continued dev on the project anyway. And what idea's did AMX steal? I think you are very uninformed. AMX is a project that almost went away. The people who developed AMXx did so on the assumption that AMX was dead. However right they may have been at the time doesn't mean the next best person can't suddenly be reinspired by the community to start it up again. Both can exist. The AMX team has done no wrong.

Yes you have. You failed your community.

You should have a close look at http://www.amxmodx.org/chart.htm and decide which is better.

Bloke, if you don't say something that anyone can understand, then you haven't said anything at all.

                  Sniper, on the chart:

#1 AMXx came from AMX this is why that is.

                  #2 You have no idea.

#5 Comment made on default install. So what?

#6 Thats the old, the "new" is here.

#8 AMX's structure is hardly confusing.

                  #9 AMX will be too.

#10 Yes I aggree. AMXx has done well in this regard.

#12 Well let it be known. AMX will run on 64bit. All 3 servers out there that use it.

Disclaimer, for the readers it should be said that the chart is missing item #8 and goes to #13 and thus gets out of sync with the numbered item descriptions below it. My responses are to the descriptions since the chart will probably get fixed with the correct numbers.

Now will you update your chart please?

Where is the source code then? :o

I think its good that there is direct competition. It makes people work harder. :)

The Free Software Foundation's interpretation of the GNU General Public License states that for unofficial beta/testing releases that source code doesn't have to be released. Technically, AMX Mod could claim this. Then again, so could AMXx... But AMXx has committed every single line of code to a publically viewable/downloadable revision history system.

And almost all changes that go in are done through community feedback. These are two very different development cycles for two mods that are becoming very different.

I don't want to start a huge flame war as occurred on the AMXx forums, but I will quickly debunk the chart points that m0gley made. Furthermore the chart has been corrected for errors that were pointed out.

#1 AMXx came from AMX this is why that is.

                        - That is a poor excuse since AMX could do the same.

                        #2 You have no idea.

                        - What? We are programmers. Of course we have an idea. This is no argument and we have given detailed explanations in numerous places. I even posted annotated source code showing YOU why.

#5 Comment made on default install. So what?

                        - Of course. The DEFAULT INSTALL is mod specific. This is bad, default installs should be neutral.

#6 Thats the old, the "new" is here.

                        - No, AMX Mod has never been and as I can see, never will be the type of development environment AMX Mod X is. As Steve Ballmer said, "DEVELOPERS, DEVELOPERS, DEVELOPERS".

#8 AMX's structure is hardly confusing.

                        - I beg to differ, it's more confusing than AMXx's. Just look at what you've adopted recently, which is partially AMXx's structure (except for the 0.9.3 module config revision, which goes back to #2).

                        #9 AMX will be too.

                        - Because of the ordering I do not know which this refers too. Maybe it has to do with turtles.

#12 Well let it be known. AMX will run on 64bit. All 3 servers out there that use it.

                        - Firstly, we got more than 3 requests for a 64bit port. Secondly, we did this for other reasons - we have contributed back to the 64bit community and ITB CompuPhase, and AMX is free to use our changes as well. That's what OSS is all about.

#12 you mean your next version of amxx will run on 64bit. I wonder what is in the next version of AMX too....

Perhaps AMX could come up with a chart showing all the AMXX bugs which AMX doesnt have. Or perhaps a chart showing what the next version of AMX is going to do against the current version of AMXX. To be honest, what is the point?

Its possible that the next version of amxx will move above amx in functionability. Then AMX will come out with another release that will put it above AMXX and so on and so on and so on until we are all bored.

At the end of the day. AMX is not dead. Quite a lot of the above is incorrect or being changed as we type so will be incorrect in very short time.

There is always going to be the amx vs amxx vs adminmod debate and people always pick sides and stick with them.

Actually, it's implemented in CVS (you know, that thing we use to post our source code). We have an RC running on our AMD64 server.

the AMXX team did a great job developing AMXX when AMX was supposed to be dead. they listened to admins/users demands, kept compatibility, added new features, did a good job in documenting what they were doing and what could be done by coders/admins ... i really dont see what your problem is, m0gely.
