Steam DDoS Attacked

Wasn't Saturday supposedly the last day of WON? It would make sense that some bitter little scriptkiddie would try to make a last ditch effort to revenge themselves upon Valve.



Won worked in it's own roundabout way, but it was nowhere near as reliable as Steam is becoming. DOS attacks were a rarity back in the old days, but the past two years we've seen a marked jump in the amount of jerkoffs on the internet. In fact, I'd say the asshole quotient has gone up a whopping 72% in the past year alone.



Haxors loved 1.5, no CS updates to worry about, no new fangled VAC updates either. I hope they find the guy and send his ass to jail anyhow. We have to get tough on hackers and script kiddies, teach them a lesson, or they'll keep on ruining the game for everyone.

I guess content server 8 was not affected.



I like to think of 8 as my personal server because it is the only one I use and it NEVER goes down during DoS or DDoS attacks.

Steam (and CZ) worked for me as well. I spent so much time online playing CZ that I wasn't even aware it wasn't working until I read it on here. lol.....which begs the question, was it certain geographical locations that were shut down? ...and would that help in their search for the idiots who are doing this?

From what I see Steam is very vulnerable to DDoS attacks. Are there any schemes to prevent this incident from recurring again? Someone could just DDoS Steam in a similar fashion to prove their point.



Make Steam invulnerable to DDoS attacks, and it will prove its worth.

Could this be the reason that I awoke this morning to "You have been banned due to past cheating violatioins" Invalid file consistency with /us-inf.mdl (its dod i know but)? Could that be why? I dont cheat....

Also, as a side note, people also enjoy bitching about Friends. Now Friends is a nice bonus, but it's not a necessity to play. It was never really there in WON (Unless you count the ad spammed chat rooms). If Friends isn't up you can still play your games. Just use another of the MANY IM programs out there people. Friends being down is not a reason to hate Steam.

Actually Friends works 90% of the time for me.. No big problems with it, and most of my friends are always online with it aswell.. We must be lucky I guess..

It works a majority of the time for me as well, it's just that I don't really have a need for it. Why? AIM, IRC, MSN, etc etc... And even then I hardly play with friends online unless it's in this TFC server I am an Admin at with some kids I know (just from online). Just saying, if people are so deadset on meeting up with people to play games with, then they should be smart enough to find more than one means of doing so.
