This must be the season for DDoS attacks. A couple of torrent sites I frequent have been getting hammered lately, there's all of the problems with Steam the past few weeks, and couple of other random companies have been having problems as reported in the news. I wonder why there's been such a rash of them lately, it seems like an unusually high frequency.

Wow, free updates, anti-cheat etc... running the won servers was not free for valve, 1.5 fans were fortunate that the serves were left on as long as they were. And now they DDos them...that's like punching someone for giving you a gift.

I wonder what the idiots doing this seem to think they can accomplish. It seems like they're being dicks, just for the sake of being dicks.

Wow! Steam is so vulnerable to these DOS attacks... It's already their third one I guess...

Anyways, it would be hilarious if it was a bunch of n00bie script kidies that did all these attacks from some cable internet conneciton.

I hope it's not a bunch of WON loving idiots who are doing this...

As much as I've loathed Steam, for some dumb updates, the crashes, the glitches, it's superior to the WON system. But to DDoS the Steam system because Valve took WON down? That's going a bit too far now isn't it?

Maybe it's a bunch of bored script kiddies? (probably)

Or something like a trojan or virus plaguing the system? I know my school network is sluggish as hell because of some trojan going around and screwing the e-mail system, which in turn creates loads of traffic, killing the network...

Are Steam servers Windows or Linux based...?

Any computer/server that is connected to the net is vulnerable to DDoS attacks. WON was attacked on a few occasions last I recalled.

I am well consent of how DOS attacks are formed. I'm just wondering why Steam and why was WON attacked only few times compared to Steam who, during the first year, has been attacked 3 or 4 times.
