35-Minute Blowout Swedish team EYEballers (interview) blew out fellow Swedes SK Gaming in an anti-clamatic 35 minute match that lasted for only 18 rounds of play. SK Gaming — pottti, fisker, spawn, ahl, and heaton — was unable to hold a strong defense, giving EYE a 7-5 advantage going into the half. EYE locked out SK by winning 6 rounds in a row as Counter-Terrorists. EYE — archie, IsKall, vilden, Hyper, and GudeN — has been a star all weekend, showing very few weaknesses while showing off some incredible aim. SK was a favorite walking into the tournament, but was only able to face EYE in the finals after a drawn-out, hour-and-a-half triple overtime match with U.S. team Rival (details). SK lost twice (both wins for EYE), while EYE was undefeated for the entire tournament. EYEballers rakes in $30,000 and SK Gaming grabs $21,000. |

The Journey SK Gaming is the renowned team of the CPL. Starting in 2002, SK has been notorious for dominating just about every event they attend. They represent the future of professional gaming by being professionally managed as a corporate entity with player salaries and top sponsors. Their first major win of the event had them facing off against a strong Forsaken clan on de_inferno, an intense match that pulled SK right into the tournament. Next up was vs TAG in round 3 of the upper bracket on de_nuke; this match was the most controversial of the event with 2 rounds awarded to SK for an illegal flash used by TAG. In the upper quarter finals on de_train they took out strong Brazilian team g3x, putting them up against Titans in the semi-finals. Here they really had to put their skills to the test against the Danish team, taking it into double-overtime to secure the win. The finals, however, saw a different outcome, despite SK's experience and skill. Swedish team EYE is a relatively new team. They came into the event with a strong 6th place seed and immediately began winning matches. Taking out attax 13-3 in the upper bracket round 2, then moving on to knock the dwindling American powerhouse 3D to the loser's bracket 13-5 on nuke in round 3. In the quarter finals they defeated Mouz 13-6 on train, which took EYE to the semis vs. the then unstoppable U.S team D!E. EYE won. The upper bracket finals match versus SK was where this team really made their mark on the scene, with a 13-9 victory. Following up with the CPL victory assures that all eyes will be on EYE in the coming months. |
