U.S. Hope, Team Rival, Taken Down by SK in Triple Overtime Nail-biter

In an hour-and-a-half match on cpl_mill, Sweden's SK took out America's Team Rival. Team Rival's terrorist performance fell closely in line with their Nuke and Dust II performances from earlier today. It is apparent that Rival — Ph33r, hanes, medias, exodus, and torrex — is a team that not only has incredible skill, but follows through with details and well-planned strategies, tactics and ambushes. In the end, however, SK.swe — Potti, SpawN, Heaton, ahl , and fisker — has the Swedish AK-47 and pistol skills that were crucial for the triple overtime victory.

An HLTV bug offered a rare glimpse into Rival's voice communication. Two or three members were broadcasted over the HLTV airwaves. While for most of the match the discussion was calm, hopeful and focused, near the end of the third overtime set frustrations began to present themselves. Team Rival was unquestionably stressed. SK, whose players have more top-level CPL experience, may have won the game on nerves alone.

But if it wasn't nerves, then we can blame lady luck. In the 40th round of play, Rival rushed bombsite 1 and Rival|medias threw down the C4. SK's CTs closed and killed all of medias' teammates. It's three on one. But in a flash, two SK go down. Medias sets his sights on Potti and... Potti gets the kill and gets the defuse, all thanks to the single health point he has remaining after the encounter. The next round, SK took the match. 41 rounds played.

SK was forced into this match after losing to fellow Swedes, EYEballers. SK will have to beat EYEballers twice tomorrow to take home the CPL Championship, while EYEballers needs to win only one of the matches to grab the gold. In either case, the Championship will once again be heading to Sweden.

    Lower Bracket: Finals

    Rival -over- Dskyline - de_dust2

     1st half2nd halfovertimefinal
    Rival5 (CT) 8 13
    Dskyline7 1 8

Team Rival has been a major surprise this tournament. Quietly gaining momentum over the last few days, and then stomping over some of the toughest and most favored teams of the CPL, including international powerhouse NoA. Rival has proved that the American Counter-Strike scene, and the West Coast scene at that, is here to stay. Their amazing defeat over the strong Euro team dsky on dust2 displayed that fact in clear terms. Intricate strategies and some very clutch rounds led Rival straight to victory. Rival must beat SK to advance to the CPL Championship Finals.

Rival has significant differences from most CS teams participating at this CPL event. First and foremost, Rival relies heavily on strategy, tactics and strong leadership. While many teams skate by on skills alone, Rival has the firepower to match and the brains to beat. While the Europeans may have introduced strong strategy to the CS world, Rival has perfected the philosophy in a way that no other team at this event has matched. Seeing Rival fight SK will be a great battle. And it'll happen tonight. Stay tuned to CS-Nation!

Swede v. Swede: EYE Knocks SK to Lower Bracket, Secures Spot in Championship Finals

    Upper Bracket: Finals

    EYE -over- SK - de_dust2

     1st half2nd halfovertimefinal
    EYE5 (T) 8 13
    SK7 2 9

EYEballers just made themselves known. Now officially one of the best teams in the world, EYE took out fellow Swedes SK by managing their T strategies while having a strong and flexible CT defense. EYE knocked down almost all of SK's offensive T strategies and locked down the second half (as CT) 8-2. This match has proved why Dust2 is the perfect map for top league play. Offensive strategy and a reinforced defense are key to winning this map. EYE has both of those, and a very healthy helping of sheer skill to push them along. EYE will be competing in the CPL Championship finals tomorrow morning. Later tonight, we'll find out their competition.

    Lower Bracket: Semi-Finals

    Rival -over- Titans - de_nuke

     1st half2nd halfovertimefinal
    Rival9 (CT) 4 13
    Titans3 6 9

American team Rival put the heat on Denmark's Titans quickly, scoring a series of early and very speedy victories as CTs. They continued a strong CT defense on nuke; Titan's terrorists seemed weak on the map, with generic strategies and very few grenade tactics. Rival, on the other hand, used grenades liberally. Titans had a much better defensive half, but Rival eventually wore them thin and took the match with a series of exciting rounds.

    Lower Bracket: Semi-Finals

    Dskyline -over- D!E - de_nuke

     1st half2nd halfovertimefinal
    Dskyline10 (CT) 3 13
    D!E2 0 2

US team D!E (CSN interview) is eliminated in a blow-out match, with Dskyline showing total domination. Rival is the last US team in competition.

    Wild stuff, this CPL!

I have to admit this is pretty exciting, even though the most action I get out of the CPL is looking at the brackets page...

Who was the guy in Titans who just waited to be glock?

Everyone was laughing their ass off when that happened.

I haven't had any trouble getting into HLTV. Just hit the "spectate" tab on steam servers, sort for highest players, filter out full servers, and voila. A ton of HLTV mirrors.
