What an awesome bit of info from that interview:
When pressed for more information, Newell let slip a few shocking details. Among them was a strong suggestion that HL3 might actually have a story.

'You know what? We don't really know where Laidlaw is, currently. When we started HL2 6 years ago, he called us from some motel, nearly frenzied, and said 'Hey! What if there were some evil alien force that enslaved humanity?!'. We haven't heard from him since. A few months in, we decided to just wing it, but there's no way any of us could've hoped to come up with a motivation for playing the game. We hope to track him down, along with someone who knows better than to have supply crates and respawning, unkillable AI teammates in cramped hallways for our next project. I can't say anything about it yet, but it's looking to be a project that can be heralded as a great experience by people who aren't complete retards.'
Such good news! Look forward towards the future!

To be honest, I think if Valve actually had a worthwhile steam update for once in a while, people would be quiet. And by that I mean, who cares about an asian fonts fix ('fixed' 2 times), remember password bugs, and a lot of minor bugs that around 3% of the community actually have. Especially since there are major bugs that in fact should have been fixed a long long time ago.
I worked for a while doing change requests and various bug fixes, and odds are it's simply the type of thing where little bugs are a lot easier to fix than the big ones, and it still looks like you're accomplishing something. Sometimes you have to wait for someone else to finish their code before you can take that reworked code, and fix a separate bug in it. Either way, the point is that the major issues are likely just too difficult/time-consuming for VALVe to be focusing on right now. At least, that's the way it would appear.

Why bother with HL3... when you can milk the franchise with expansions.
I'm thinking that's sort of what HL3 will be, essentially. Maybe some minor tech updates, but mainly a continuation of the story.

they have an actual story line website aswell..... it starts with the combine taking over xen before half-life 1.... and ends with the citadel being destroyed.....

whats supposed to happen after is that the explosion takes out city 17, and the fall of the citadel destroys most of earth, through explosion and obvious falling to ground from such a high level

Please use [ spoiler ] and [/ spoiler ] tags if you're giving away anything. I wouldn't know, as I haven't gone through the game yet. :P
