        Pretty nice article!

        Smittins you legend :P

The awp delay really should be a bit lower!

Or at least make it so the weapon animations are correct.

I really don't get why they have to take all the stuff out that makes the difference between good players and not so great players.

You call it an exploit? Just because people mastered something!

        Shield removed? Nice one!

Now make another poll/ask again regarding awp delay etc. =/

And to boost or not to boost?! I really do hope you didn't f*ck that one up as well ...

And if vavle keep on splitting the cs community with more and more different cs "versions" anyway, why not introduce a "pro" version.

@Equalizer! Well, some people like competition. Whether you call it e-sport or not at least these players throw a more positive light on gamers in the public eye.

ps Sorry for crappy English =[

Oh and lol at the rocket launcher shell in the screenshot ... like *wtf* ^^

Why you ask? Because I think its a cheat using stopsound command, you're basically cutting out anything but the noise produced by your enemy.
No, you just stop the ambient sounds because it's a long sound. Stopsound simply stops whatever soung the game is playing at the time you use it. When you use stopsound, you cut out all sounds, your opponent's sounds, your sounds, fish.. sounds, explosion sounds, everything.
Not sure if they are really wanting to aim for realism with this physics and engine, but in real life I don't think terrorists or counter-terrorist guys has a choice of stopping the crickets, monkey sounds, rain sounds so they can have a better chance at killing their adversary. Either way, have stopsound as a server-wide option or remove it completely. Just my 2-cents.
I don't think real counter-terrorists.. anything! There's alot of other things that aren't realistic in the game, but no one (most of us, shell ejections on the wrong side? Boo fucking hoo you emo kids) cares too much. I doubt real CTs stand on each other's heads jump on top of high ledges, only to fall off and simply run away.

How can they port CZ to CS:S?

Why would you remake remade stuff from cs?

Unless they mean the deleted scenes, and Id rather they didnt bother.
I'm suprised they're even bothering with CZ. I can understand HOW it would be done, but why?

i'd call it a cheat because it gives you an advantage over other players you aren't meant to have. but i will say, some maps have really f~ing annoying ambient sounds.
Maybe you don't realize that EVERYONE can use the stopsound command. No one is giving anyone an advantage over anyone else. If people are ignorant to things you can do in the game, that's their fault. Should I not be allowed to drop my gun because a new player doesn't know how to do it?

i realize that, but i think if the map maker puts ambient sounds in, then you were meant to have ambient sounds. therefore i consider getting rid of that, giving yourself an advantage you were not meant to have. i'd compare it to somebody getting rid of flash/smokes on a lesser level.

i see ambient sounds as a part of the game, many others see them as an annoyance/inconvienence and simply wish to remove them.

and comparing a console command to something you can bind in the keyboard menu is something different entirely. say nobody told you about stopsound, how would you ever find about it? i don't see most people doing cmdlist in console to dig all the different commands.

That's why we should make it an option. The people that like the ambient sounds and/or think it's an unfair advantage not to have them aren't forced to use "stopsound."

So do you know what the word 'advantage' means? If everyone has stopsound in a match, how can it be that everyone has an advantage? It isn't us vs. the map, it's us vs. them. Getting rid of ambient effects simply makes it so skill is more of a factor in determining who wins the game, and outside factors are not. If an league got rid of flashbangs and smokes entirely, it wouldn't give anyone an advantage because everyone had it.

Look at it this way, because I have a feeling you still don't get it. You're in the special olympics, returning champion of the wheelchair race. Suddenly, all of the contestants can walk and they decide to do the event anyway. Everyone runs it. You can't say that being able to walk gives you an advantage, because everyone else can walk, too.
i see ambient sounds as a part of the game, many others see them as an annoyance/inconvienence and simply wish to remove them.
They're a part of the game, sure. Doesn't mean people who are annoyed by them should be. If everyone has the ability to use stopsound, and want to be "no i want to play the game the way it was made teehee *tooth-sparkle*" then they can.
and comparing a console command to something you can bind in the keyboard menu is something different entirely. say nobody told you about stopsound, how would you ever find about it? i don't see most people doing cmdlist in console to dig all the different commands.
If people are going to play the game to the point where they care about completely level playing fields, they should atleast know some of the basic important console commands, like stopsound. Yea, I have stopsound bound to "f". Playing matches on train, and having to hear the annoying, poor quality triggers go off is just frustrating. That, and usually in pubs when some idiot starts trying to coordinate movements like it matters, I'll hit stopsound rapid fire to make sure I don't hear him.

The first few times that I'll play the Source maps, I'll probably listen to the ambience. But why would you want to hear the constantly playing sounds that don't help you if you don't want to? You can say its an unfair advantage all you want, it's not. Most people don't even realize to listen for footsteps, they're not going to care.

they should maintain the stopsound, its ok to listen to a map sound effect 1, 2, 3 times... then if u practice cs 3, 4 hours a day, these sounds will sure get overplayed and u oull not handle then anymore...

                    Stop sound remains!

I never said it was an unfair advantage. What I mean is, if you don't like (stopsound) it, don't use it.

Sorry dude, couldn't disagree with you more. If skill is really the big concern here, then there would be no problem, since the players you're talking about who use "stopsound" are undoubtedly so skilled that they don't need to use it, right? I mean, they're supposed to be so good, so what's a couple of crickets or running water in the background.

See what gets me about so many of these CS arguments is that people tend to hide behind the "skill" excuse when what they're really referring to is ways to make the game easier for them.

I say if you want to encourage skill, you should encourage the removal of the stopsound command. Train those ears to hear over the background noise. You can do it. You're "skilled," remember?

Right on, carrying on entro's argument you could say that player skins only get in the way of one's "skill" and should therefore all be monochrome.

i am well aware of what advantage means. but where is it established that most cs players want to use stopsound, or that most of them are using it? i don't care if you and everybody else uses it in their matches. but i'm willing to accept your viewpoint. i can definitely appreciate the availability of more options, after the 1500th time pretty much any ambient sound can become annoying. i'm hoping we atleast agree that a server cvar to prevent/allow people using it atleast sounds like a viable solution.

On the whole stopsound debate, let me simplify it by saying this.

                              Stopsound > de_aztec.

There's very few people who can hear the sound of someone running in the water OVER the sound of the rain. Stopsound removes the 'sound of rain' for the entire round, making it very, very easy to instantly know when someone's running in the water. Or entering or leaving it. Also, the thunder trigger on the map for the bridge or stairs 'blends in' (somewhat) with the ambient noise, again making it harder to hear, or at least notice. With stopsound, it's complete silence, then the sound of thunder, then complete silence. Without, it's the sound of a storm with occasional thunder.

I think it's one of the most illogical things ever said that if you "don't like stopsound, don't use it". That's not the arguement. What we don't like is our opponents using stopsound. Why this 'suggestion' is being toted around is beyond me.

Actually, I personally use stopsound for the advantage it brings, even though I'd be happier with it gone. I've even got it bound to the same key as my autobuy. This is for the simple reason that if my enemy uses it, I have to use it to be on equal status.

As far as I'm concerned, there should be a server-side variable for ambient noise, default on, and leave it at that. Mods can be made to vote_ambient or whatever.

But the simple fact of the matter is that as a skill-affecting part of the game, it should be equal for all players on that server.

                              Quoted for truth.
