Rizzuh, who or what were you playing with? Were they bots or other VALVe employes?

Nicely done article and interview, rizzuh. :) Now time for the quotefest...

What is the guy on the left holding? It looks like a golden para!
You know, when I first saw that, for a second I thought rizzuh was up to his old photoshopping tricks, trying to put some sort of golden Q3 rocket launcher in as a prank, but then the obvious struck me.

Maybe ambience in CS: Source isn't an ear bleeding low-quality high-pitched wave loop?
Good call. :) My main concern, though, is with wondering whether I'll have to endure loud looping sounds for the 15 seconds in between fully connecting to a server and actually making it to the MOTD screen. On the other hand, maybe my old computer just sucks, and the new one won't have that problem.

Awsome images, Looks like fun to play. One MAP you say, thats crap... They ruined the CS Beta tradition... CS Beta had more maps then one.
So long as you're into making comparisons, consider the fact that the original CS beta didn't come out before Half-Life was available in stores. The whole comparison between the original CS betas and the CS:S beta is pretty weak, this certainly doesn't ruin any "tradition" in existence.

HankPym you should have noticed they fixed the garage door in CZ too, hehe

any problems in CS:S liek that will be what distinguishes CZ:S cause htey will be fixed, LOL
Yeah, the little tweaks are kind of cool. I've been loving the new hostage AI and now the improved grenades...

I think the hands could definitely be improved, especially the FINGERNAILS. Please add some specularity to the nails (if it isnt there already) and maybe some normal mapping on the skin texture.
In most cases it's fairly difficult to identify normal maps and specularity from screenshots, compared to when everything is in motion and you get to see the same surface from varying views. They could easily be in there without you noticing.
original CS we got bunny hopping.. in CS:Source we got barrell humping. SWEET.
Hmm, maybe you should coin that term, lol.

As soon as my girlfriend found out how addicted i am to CS/HL stuff I told her we're going to have a month or two break unless she wants to bunk at my house with her computer heh, she just looked confused. (I know, i'm not a real CS'r because of my affiliation with the other sex)
Glad to see your priorities are in order...? :P
      cliffe:

In addition, the weapon models are now higher-poly and use specularity and/or normal mapping.

      ...

So Rizzuh and Nighthawk, prepare the CS: Source section of CSN Skins. Things are getting interesting.
      Beautiful.

It hasn't been removed...we're just discussing whether or not it should be. I think that if there are no annoying glitches that loop (the cs_office garage door) in CS: Source they should remove the command. It'll let people enjoy the ambient sounds (which I'm sure will be better than those in 1.6) without worrying about having a level playing field.
I know. My god thought why would you remove it? Its a personal preference, personally I dont want to hear dogs barking or a window breaking, I want to concentrate on the enemy. Removing stopsound would pretty much fk me up

Althought CS:S is great and all Im alittle peeved we wont get a default Half Life 2 multiplayer

If sound is ever to be a factor in competitive play then it will have to be normalized across the board. They can start by removing commands like stopsound.

Personally I don't think this should be done with CS: Source since it will change things significantly, and require actual thought in the sound tech rather than just background fluff. Plus it's just a port of the original gameplay.

                Maybe CS2.

Wait a second, why are you guys jumping at the idea of a CZ:S? You're just assuming there will be one, when in fact, it hasn't been said. CZ was a waste of time if anything, why waste more time porting it to Source?
"Presently the other known and confirmed games being ported to the Source engine are as follows:

                  » Half-Life: Source (The original Half-Life game)

                  » Opposing Force: Source

                  » Blue Shift: Source

                  » Team Fortress: Source

                  » Day of Defeat: Source"
Don't see CZ on there. And whoever said "der-hyuk maybe this will be one of the extra things CZ:S gets hah!" is just stupid. We're not getting CS:S for free, why would they withhold things for a single player mod?

As far as stopsound goes, I'd rather not have ambient sounds in a competitive match, but if they're not too much of a distraction (and aren't triggers), no big deal. I'd rather have the option to use it, but if it comes down to making it a serverside option, I'd rather have it totally allowed or totally unallowed. I just found a rock in my keyboard between the [ ' and ] keys. Wierd. Anyway, it'd be shitty to play scrims where stopsound would be allowed, and then join a quick pub and not be able to use stopsound. It's not a huge issue though.

I'm all for stopsound and such but with this new and better engine maybe I wouldn't mind the higher quality ambient sounds to go with the game and take out the stopsound all together. Why you ask? Because I think its a cheat using stopsound command, you're basically cutting out anything but the noise produced by your enemy.

Not sure if they are really wanting to aim for realism with this physics and engine, but in real life I don't think terrorists or counter-terrorist guys has a choice of stopping the crickets, monkey sounds, rain sounds so they can have a better chance at killing their adversary. Either way, have stopsound as a server-wide option or remove it completely. Just my 2-cents.

I wasn't aware how things had changed until it actually took me a few seconds to tell your post being ironic.

They definitely have a history of doing so, but CZ bug fixes and improvements not being ported to CS1.6 (hostages AI hasn't been I think) as long as the BETA CS:S only available to fresh customers of valve is changing this history.

maybe it's just me being in a bad mood and valve wanting to avoid bandwidth issues, who cares. At the end of the day they still close WON and you get a resource glutton steam instead. Valve is microsfting itself, having an updating system to fix rushed buggy versions then fix the fixes is just another exemple. And when i say rushed I mean with 1 year delay.

How can they port CZ to CS:S?

Why would you remake remade stuff from cs?

Unless they mean the deleted scenes, and Id rather they didnt bother.
