I used to hate the 24/7 dust servers, so this news helps me a bit to ease the pain of not being able to play the CS:S beta (I'm not buying CS:CZ for it)..
But something else, read:This is being done to find out if there are any major problems with the engine before Half-Life 2 reaches release candidate status.
If they expect to preload/start the beta end of this month, and they need the beta test results before they release the first RC, then there is no way they are gonna release the first RC on July 30th like Gabe said they were aiming at.. Looks to me they are behind schedule again.. But hey, what else is new.. I'm just happy things are obviously moving towards the end now and we get to play HL2 and CS:S in a couple of months (my guess is still end of September)..

How silly some of you are.
I'm just going to say Thank You Valve for letting us have a sneak preview of CS: Source. While I do detest Dust and have for about 4 years now.....I do end up playing it because it is still one of about 3 maps everyone runs nowadays. (Dust2 and Aztec are the other two. C'mon people....other maps out there are great.)
I still would have recommended the first map they give us be Dust simply because it IS a map everyone intimately knows well...unfortunately.
One map I can think of that may be fun is ol cs_backalley. Think about shooting all of those outside metal platforms down on peoples heads. heh heh.Comment

I sure hope VALVe,Gabe,Jess change their minds and have at least 2 maps.
Why not have at least 2 maps? dust or dust2 and aztec then we could experience a mapchange at least.I don't understand the why's of only having 1 map for the beta?
although which map/or maps to put on is VALVe's decision, having at least 2 maps they'll be at least twice as likely to please fans testing the betaComment

If server admins have some sort of a map timelimit (Which most probably will), you'll still experience some sort of a map "change." Granted it will be the same map, but if it works the same way as now, you'll reconnect to the server, load the necessary files and then the map appears.

Obviously alot of people don't know what public beta test means. It's to actually test the features, engine and gameplay and give constructive feedback and bug reports to the devs, its not a complete freebie game being released for purely entertainment value.
Same people that complained about CS 1.6 having alot of bugs during its beta period, instead of reporting the bugs and offering constructive suggestions. :PComment

Oh sweet mother of god....don't get me wrong..in every cs player there is a place in their heart for de_dust but all these years playing it, or all those servers that are 24/7 dust you would think they would choose a more interactive map to play like Inferno or Italy for the beta because they are more realistic and most likely to have objects like barrels or boxes to push over. I don't know about you guys but I'm all dust'd out.Comment

Did you say pictures of de_dust?
aztec is the only map they've shown, and the only way dust can be considered an option is if valve showed us dust screens before the cs:source beta. and my million dollar bet is it's aztec, someone hold it up against me please.azz0r wrote..
Yes.

They'd also have to be fools to not know that no matter what map they put out in the beta, everyone who can will still be playing it. That said, why show the very best map you have first, and have everything that comes after it be inferior?
I really hope they don't go with dust. They'd have to be fools to not realise that dust2 is the most popular CS map by far...bullet_head wrote..
Don't count on it.

Seriously, dust is a classic, so what better way to do some CS testing? What better way to show off the difference in the engine? Good fast paced conflict (inside can be a slaughterhouse, afterall), while maintaining the CS feel. I'm looking forward to it. :)

Well if its a concern with the source engine, they will release that map, the whole reason they are releasing it is for testing the engine. If something happens while playing, they will know its unstable or whatever
Well considering the current engine, Aztec is just about the most demanding CS map out there (thinking of the CZ weather effects and such especially). That might not be a concern with the Source engine, though. Dust might also be a good choice, since it's so popular.
No sense bickering about it, we'll find out soon enough.Comment
