WON Shutdown Dates

In the latest news posting at the Steampowered.com website, word has been given of the official shutdown timetable for the WON servers.

Starting July 26th the shutdown of the WON authentication servers will begin. This process will be completed on July 31st. This means players will no longer be able to access Internet features of Valve games, such as Counter-Strike 1.5, using the WON authentication servers. Users can continue using Valve games on the Steam service by downloading the Steam installer and setting up a Steam account. For more information visit www.steampowered.com. Counter-Strike 1.5 players will be upgraded to Counter-Strike 1.6 free of charge through Steam.

Its not exactly Steam that bugs me, its all the bugs in CS 1.6. I play CS 1.5 in 1600x1200 with 60 fps, and now in CS 1.6 I find it hard to get 30 fps in 800x600. And then I called Mr. Sherman, and he had the nerve to tell me theres nothing wrong with CS 1.6 and to make sure im not running the game in D3D mode.

That's rather odd... I can run in all native resolutions in CS1.6 and average about 100 FPS (yet I lock it at 72) except for when I hit smoke, or some parts of maps. This on a Radeon 9200 just as an FYI.

Hurrah, finally people will have to upgrade to the frankly better CS1.6. Hopefully this will put and end to all the newbs asking "why won't these custom models work right?!!?".

my friend is having the same problems... 1.6 framerate lags

LAN games will work. You dont have to be connected to the internet to play a LAN game
