          7. Computer Games Romania: After its release, many players will hurry to get their copy through Steam first. Can Steam handle such a load?

Doug Lombardi: We're taking several steps to accommodate the demand, and we'll soon find out if our guesstimates were accurate.
Hahaha, they better have a long pre-loading period if they hope to avoid massive network lag. :) Ah well, I don't think VALVe has ever correctly estimated how large the demand on their network would be, but we love 'em anyway. :P

Who knows... maybe they'll get lucky and all of us will just be buying boxed copies anyway...

I seem to recall an interview with one of the Valve staffers some time ago, where he actually admitted their constand underestimation.

They should just figure out how much bandwidth they think they'll need, then double it.

If it's anything like Condition Zero, I'll buy the box to get the discounted price off Amazon and then use the product key to download it off Steam anyway. What do I care, it'll be unattended and I actually get a later version.

... Why not just buy the Platinum edition (Boxed) and maybe 1 lite edition (boxed)? Granted even THAT is overkill, but at lest you'd have an extra key and the bonuses.

so basically you buy hl games and give the keys to other people?

btw, can i get one of those keys?

... So just tell them to stop being a freeloader and buy their own copy?

That makes no sense. In 3 years HL2 will be half the price.
