Actually you should probably replace "everyone" with "Steam users."

Either way, though, the logic sucks. Name one beta release that has been open to all who wanted to participate. There could very well be one, but I don't know of any.
Return To Castle Wolfenstien, Soldier Of Fortune 1, Warcraft 3, and more... actually Counter-Strike was a free public beta! im sure there was more

EDIT: Soldner (bloody crappy though), Tribes 2 (i think), Day Of Defeat, Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow Multiplayer (i loved that sooo much), Quake 3 Arena, Ghost Recon (i think i remember a multiplayer beta), America's Army (technically), Starlancer (it even had exclusive single player missions), Star Wars Galaxies (for a short period i think, but you had to register a lot of stuff, so i decided not to)

the original CS betas was open to anyone that had HL1

Replace "everyone" with "half-life owners". Now your logic is almost complete, but you forgot one thing: CS: Source isn't a half-life mod.
it's not a CZ mod either

steam was released to anyone who wanted to participate..for a day or something then it was taken down. either way you could have just searched steaminstall.exe on google and got it.

It's a "clever" attempt of valve to boost CZ sales, it's like paying $30 or whatever CZ is now for CS:S BETA for a limited time. "Hardcore" CS fans would buy it for it, hell they'd buy it because it says Counter-Strike in the title hah.

Personally, I believe VALVe's thoughts were "CS:S beta for CZ owners. They've supported us as a company most recently by paying for a new game, why not give them something back?"

WHY do people expect CS:S beta handed to them on a silver platter? You paid for HL 6 years ago (some of you), or CS retail a good 3 or so years ago (or HL, or.. blah blah x amount of years ago).. explain to me how that entitles you to an otherwise brand new product's beta?

Looking at Cliffe's avatar, I wonder where Valve came up with their company name? Wouldn't Crowbar Inc. been a fitting title, or how about L337 Co.? Anyhow, I hope the beta testing doesn't stop as soon as HL2 is released.

Why should it continue? If anything it'll stop before HL2 is released as CS: Source is supposed to be released in conjunction with HL2. :P

Yup. Lets hope it does or there will be quite the angry community lol. If people get as mad as they do over the "common" shield glitch, valve better start watching for the hitman (no pun intended). [/endneededsarcasm]

Well then CZ owners should consider themselves lucky.

Cliffe is funnyman. Cliffe has avatar. Means Cliffe is CS-Nationalist. Cliffe supports the fansite that supports him.

                            It's only $5

Anyway, would be absoultely superb if the CS:S beta test stops only when the final version is out...

Hopefully the magic of Steam will be able to convert the last beta version into the full "retail" version of CS:S when it is available and "purchased" for us po' dial-up users.

Presuming it doesn't come on the DVD (or CDs) already.

If you can buy CS:S on it's own I'll be suprised
