I'm seriously considering CZ now. Look how long the beta process was for 1.6/steam, if CS Source takes as long to "beta" it might be the only option for awhile.

BETA will be only for a few weeks. Then HL2 will be out with CSS final.

The final version of Counter-Strike: Source is set to ship in conjunction with Half-Life 2.

Yeah, I saw that like 15 minutes after I posted my response

Of course, it was also said that it may not be a new CS at all that he's working on. It's still good though to know he's at least alive :P

It's true, it's only an (educated) assumption that Gooseman is working on CS2. It seems reasonable, but we shouldn't jump to conclusions I suppose.
