gooseman grabbed his sack of money and ran. not a bad tactic in my oppinion. hell thats what i would have done.

gooseman has not worked on cs since beta 7. cliffe (for better or worse) has been in charge since then.

mikej, instead of writing cliffe is the original creator all by himself, which is how your post comes across, how about giving some credit to gooseman? or did rizzuh say he will fire you if u mention gooseman's name?

"cliffe" is stealing all the limelight, which should go to gooseman, or at least split half way.
I believe that Cliffe is the only one of the two who is still actively working on the project. True he wasn't the only one in the beginning, but is the only original creator still working on it now.

You're welcome to correct me of course, but just saying... It's how I thought it was.

It's mostly about business, it will partly boost CZ's sales, as people want to beta test CS: Source.

Also the CZ community is more mature compared to the stuff you get in CS servers.
because the younger people can't afford, or wont pay for something which is basically a remake with a few extra's sold at £20 + it is and will probably always be a rip off... especially when you can just use csn to get skins for cs1.6.. it will be interesting to see if u can port over old skins to cs:s.. has that been mentioned at all?

Hmm just 120,000 CS 1.6 users? Why then are there over 1.2 million unique Steam users...

Maybe he meant players actually playing online at any given time, not the total amount of players..

Q: We understand that CS: Source will be released prior to the release of Half-Life 2 via Steam. Is there a concrete date for this planned release? Furthermore, is it true that Half-Life 2 packages will include a free copy of CS: Source? And, is there any possibility that CS: Source will be released as an independent package?

Michael: Affirmative. Although I can't specifically announce the exact release date, I can at least say it will be released via steam within two months. Right now, I can't promise that the Half-Life 2 package and the CS: Source package will be sold separately; however, the combined Half-Life 2 + CS: Source package will be released with a reasonable retail price including the extra price for CS: Source by Vivendi Universal Games.
If CS:S is still on track to be released with hl2, and the beta for CS:S is only being released within the next two months, won't this mean hl2 being delayed untill october/novemeber with the testing time and all.

I know they already said fall, but with fall i thought september ah well

according to cliffe, gooseman works "just down the corridor from his office", this is at valve's offices. but he prefers to keep a low profile. cliffe also mentioned that he may try to convince gooseman to show himself to the community once again. but nothings confirmed.

Wow, that is some low profile then if I thought he was done working on the project.

HL2 MP (with CSS) better be 40 bucks or so.

About the CSS BETA should be release very soon and only last a few weeks. Then HL2 will be out.

Well in a way, you're right...here's the full text of what Cliffe said:
Minh (Gooseman) is down the hall hard at work on top secret stuff. Perhaps I can convince him to post...
So, while Gooseman is working at Valve, it could be said that he's not working on any of the current CS projects... :)

                        Ok, I'm confused...

                        1) Will CS:S BETA be released within two months or was he talking about the official release?

                        2) I thought CS:S was supposed to be freely downloadable when you own HL2, but it sounds like it's price will be tacked onto a special package of HL2...

                          HL2 lite(no multi) = cheap (20squid or somet)

                          HL2 (multi, + CS) = normal (40squid or somet)

Platinum (multi + CS +other stuff) = expensive (60squid or somet)

i only have 1 cheap, 2 normal and 1 platinum on order, so how ever it works ill get the best of all worlds

As with any product not yet released, Valve can change whatever they like between now and then, so don't go sweating over release dates or pricing, you'll just get disappointed. I'm seriously considering CZ now. Look how long the beta process was for 1.6/steam, if CS Source takes as long to "beta" it might be the only option for awhile.

If they are seperate products I don't think HL2 will do as well. People might come for the action, but they'd stay for the multiplayer. Single player games can be borrowed, rented and stolen, so it makes more financial sense to incorporate a multiplayer element. Personally, if HL2 doesn't come with CS, I'll wait for CS just like I have so far avoided CZ in favour of HL2.
