This is good news, means developers don't have to support two systems anymore.

All these comments follow a similar theme - quantifying a player's ability to run Steam by connection speed alone. No-one has checked to think about actual computer speed required to run Steam/CS 1.6. I play 1.5 on a PII/300, and can run it quite well. I tried Steam, and made a cup of tea in the timespace the game takes to shift one frame.

So it looks like I will have to get a new set-up altogether, and then I can join the oppressive police state (but wait, the interface looks so nice!) that is Steam! ........

........as soon as I decide what to do with 22,359.524 cups of tea.

          No more split community. :)
Agreed. This will help the community some, by limiting the CS options to 1.6 and CZ (most people don't bother much with the Steam 1.3 and 1.5).

I'm pretty sure that this news will move quite a few players from WON 1.5 to STEAM 1.5. People who don't want to be bothered by being a constant beta tester for the game can still play 1.5, which will not change.

The day we actually get CS 1.6 final, people might change their minds.

you can download the converter from 1110 to steam here: www.files.third-core.org/cs

you people! change is good and mistakes happen. I personally prefer 1.6 highly over 1.5 for at least one easily apparent reason: THE SHIELD!

I hate Steam not CS 1.6

putting CS 1.5 on Steam does not solve the problem.

Oh and I've got good ole Doom 3 coming made by a differant company they WILL be getting "my money" and yes considering 50,000 players are instantly screwed when won goes down.

Oh and I said I wouldn't buy HL2 didnt say anything about downloading it from a file sharing utility.

hopefully they will add some more content servers, but y'know, there are 100,000-120,000 CS1.6 users compared to 50,000max WON users, so it's not like we haven't seen it coming. Less cheaters(because of better anti-piracy), Instant Delivery(ok, not so instant.. I still enjoyed CS:CZ the same evening I purchased it on.), and best of all.. no more of those SILLY Internetless LANs!

I hope they start charging pay to play so all you steam users can rot in hell.

There's a chance I'm mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that even the retail version of HL2 is going to operate within the Steam framework.

So yeah, play HL2, use Steam. Deal with it.

Steam will be used for all Valve games from now on, that offcourse includes HL2.. Steam is not that bad, it adds some nice features which you can use both in- and outgame, pretty handy.. I think the Steam haters base their hate on what Steam used to be when it was still in beta (and I agree was a pile of buggy shit), but it's pretty good right now and keeps getting better.. So just try it, or leave and shut up! Thxs..

Wait. Instead of installing steam with half life, why doesn't valve release a version of 1.6 without steam? All you'd have to put in there is the bare essentials: game list and steam connecter.

Simply put, because they want you to use Steam.

I see nothing wrong with steam...

What's wrong with you people? Why don't you n00b 1.5ers get over it an play 1.6 with the rest of us. IT's a hell of alot better.
