Mouse Modding 101

Amped Gaming News has posted a rather peculiar guide detailing, in step by step fashion, on how to remove the "weights" from a Logitech MX Optical mouse. By doing so, the mouse will be lighter in weight and much easier to control.

This mod isn't so complicated but may prove sufficient for low sensitivity gamers. Raising your MX from the mouse pad can become a tiring task during long gaming sessions, one solution is to visit your local athletic club (work out that forearm,) but today we will be showing you a more effortless method. This short guide will walk you through the removal of weight inside your Logitech MX optical mouse.

Should you be a Logitech mouse user (and a hardcore gamer looking for an "advantage"), you may find this article worth a minute of your time. For those that do not apply, be prepared to be transfixed in confusion.

Isn't there something worth-while you could mod? Seems like wasted effort to me; but, whatever floats your boat.

Just modded my mouse, it dosn't feel a whole hell of alot lighter but it does feel a bit better.

Blah, I like my mouses on the heavy side. You actually feel like you're doing something then, it seems to have a more direct response, and I find it easier to control, with a light mouse I 'skid' and over-shoot all the time.

Just for the fun of going slightly off-topic, what is the proper plural for a computer mouse?



I also tend to say "mouses" when talking computers, but shouldn't it technically be "mice"?

it is mice... the computer mouse was named after mice due to their mouselike appearance.

bit of a pain as you have to order them from abroad, however, they are far superior to teflon tape. i can literally blow my mouse across my icepad.

I don't see any reason why a the mouse's "weight" would affect gameplay, it just sounds like another excuse for doing bad.

I knew this when I first got my MX500. What sucks about it is the fact that the stickers over the screwholes got screwed up, making my mouse glide worse, and I didn't even take out the weight permanently, I like it heavy. Seriously, is this even worth a newspost?

boy was that an experience! I have a story...



So i remove the stickers and spend about 20 minutes trying to get the sticky shit off with "rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs" So then, I get my screwdriver, unscrew the two on the front, but my screwdriver is too fat to go down the back hole! Spend another 10-15 looking for something that CAN fit.



I finally got the darn thing open. It took some force and prying to get the top to come off tho. So when it did come out, the mouse wheel plus its 100 parts came flying out onto the floor. I go ahead and take out the weight, and spend the next 10 minutes finding all the pieces. WHen I have them, I have no fuckin clue how the hell to put them back together. So for the next 20 or so minutes I figure out how to get to my control panel, go to accessibility so i can use numpad to move arrow, then browse to some website that has a large picture of the inside of a MX500 so I can figure out how to put the pieces back together.



I started the mouse deal at 2 A.M. and it is now 3:20 A.M. what a fun way to waste 1 1/2 hours of sleep I could have gotten... GG!
