wonder if that MOTD update was to fix a glitch where a server admin can force a client to download any file to the client computer.

Hrrmm.. actually, I checked the monitor during the update and it said it was updating the halflife engine. So, I think maybe there was a fix or two for HL/CS.
You're right.. I saw a small HL engine update aswell..

Just leave the dialog open for awhile when you double-click Counter-Strike on the Games menu.

Well I'm glad I'm not going insane...it only took about half a second on my system.

EDIT: I avoid the Steampowered forums like the ebola virus, so I don't know how much Hank posts there. The steam forums are overwhelmingly full of idiots, but my comment wasn't a dig at Hank, as I posted before #22 did. Just to clarify.
Don't worry about it, I don't blame you in the least. The Steampowered forums are completely awful. The only reason I hang around there is because I feel someone has to be around to give the other side of the opinion, especially since Valve reads them for input.

It's a very frustrating experience sometimes, but I encourage all who have exceptionally thick skins to join me.

Those forums are a reflection of the CS community imho.. I didn't play CS for about 6 months and I started playing it again yesterday, and the first thing I noticed was the childish behaviour of the players and the way they communitcate, lots of bad cursing etc.. I can tell you that in other games I didn't notice that near as much on public servers.. The CS community is really bad nowadays.. When I started playing CS in 1999 it was alot better, it got worse when CS got more and more popular.. It's just one of the negative effects of being the most popular online FPS game I guess, you get all the kids, idiots and lamers.. Nothing you can do but ignore them, I bet Valve and the CS team do the same..

                    You are exactly right.

Oh, and the steampowered forums are horrible. I can't stand to read them with all the ignorant 13 year olds on them.

It's not all that bad, I have often had a good game of condition zero.

I just wish they remade it easy to mute.

I agree, the CZ crowd at this point seems marginally more mature. We'll have to see if it stays that way.

Hopefully CS:Source will revive CS a bit.. It's the new CS me and alot of other old-skool CS players are looking forward to, same basic gameplay but uptodate graphics and physics etc.. Hopefully most annoying kids, idiots and lamers etc will then stay behind in the current CS (since they always complain about any change to CS anyway they will think CS:S suckorz, and old CS is l33t), but that's probably wishfull thinking.. CS:S is gonna rule though (I think/hope)

You sir are why I consider quiting cs every single day but in the end I decide not to because on a rare occasion I find a server with mature people on it and I enjoy the game.
