it perfectly reflects the Half-Life fanbase.
That's slightly unfair - I'd happily suggest that a large proportion of the fanbase consists of sensible individuals who understand enough of the industry and are not spoilt enough to constantly troll forums and badmouthing Valve. It's the same for any game - the majority of the players are great, fun, normal people who know that the game is just a game and can accept it for that. They paid their $40 and got out of it pretty much what they expected, or in some cases, a whole lot more.

We have a vast, varied and international community of bright, fun, clever, talented people - let's remember them and not the few who crease that image.

I agree, at the end of the day, think about what you'll get for your money, granted you may have to pay extra for the mods such as Day Of Defeat (because we all know it'll be out with HL2). When I think about it, I paid a pittence for my copy of Half-Life , a good many years ago, and the replay value of this game is phenomenal for such a price tag.

Anyway, my main point is that whining and moaning about the release date of Half-Life 2, and calling Valve a bunch of liars will get you nowhere. At the end of the day, this will be the most popular and best selling PC game of all time, you would have to be a fool not to know that. That is why Valve is taking their time and making sure that they get this one right. You also have to remember that everything in this game will need to tie in with the Half-Life 3 storyline, that is why everything needs to be assembled correctly in order to ensure some inter-series linearity.

I know that many of you guys will throw my point outta the window, or not even read it, but just remember, these guys are making the best PC game known, and it takes a lotta hard work and effort, so you as gamers will love the final product, please have some respect for Valve.

Valve doesn't suck. (Isn't it weird how the opposite of 'suck' is 'blow', but are both negative remarks?)
your right, i didnt mean to use the word suck, but they should kick it in gear

Exactly right. It's the sophomoric segment of Valve's fanbase that is the most vocal about their complaints and issues with Valve. Sure, everybody who has been waiting to get their grubby little hands on HL2 for the past 3 years is disheartened by all of the delays. The face of the community seems like a pimply 14-year-old boy who does nothing but flame Valve over every little problem. However, a huge part of the community is made up of those of us who realize that Valve does the best they can, and that it's a pretty damn good job. I'm sure they realize that they've got a lot of support out there from the silent majority of us who may not weigh in constantly to verbally support them, but who are more than happy with the job they are doing and don't think of them as liars and jerks. Once HL2 hits, all of the whining will dematerialize in short order.

"We anticipate delivering it to Vivendi in August."

as in "hl2 is coming out one day, don't buy doom3 before, we want your money in our pocket"

remind me of the console announcement war

"sega saturn is coming out in one month"

"no wait, our ps2 will be far better in one year"

at least they didn't lyed about release dates back then.

Because with three words (anticipate, vivendi and august) you get a game on shelves in holidays...2005...hopefully. ok 2004, i'm just trolling.

I know that customer satisfaction isn't all about delays, but also about quality and price but a 1 year delay...

maybe a TF2 fan will teach me patience

Technically, releasing late August is still a summer release, but we all know that most of us have school and work at that time and would much rather the game come out... this month or at the latest sometime in July. I guess it isn't a "summer" release anymore.

Didn't you read up on the part about valve suspending work on TF2 because they were gonna make it on the Half-Life2 engine, thus if they announced that after 3 months of "inactivity" it was being made on another engine, everyone knows that Half-Life2 is in the works.... I kinda see where you are coming from though, cos TF2 has been in production for at least 3 and a 1/2 years now tbh :P

Half-Life Radio and Half-Life Source were the first site to break the news regarding a possible late summer / early fall release.

                                Half-Life Source

                                Half-Life Radio

They got some pictures of Valve, Gabe Newell, and other stuff on their Half-Life Source page. Plus, additional Half-Life 2 info. They seriously doubt that this game will be on store shelves before October 1st.
