Is the ping difference in LAN's really worth all of the hassle of getting to one?
It's not just about the ping difference. Sure, that's a cool aspect, but it's more about the excitement of being surrounded by the people you're playing with. Instead of reading "w00t! gj nice" on your screen when you pull off an incredible last second rush/defuse, you hear the cheers of your teammates and surprised curses of your enemies. :)

It's also kind of nice to know that everything there is legit, as nobody wants to get caught hacking surrounded by a room full of angry gamers.

as far as security we are having 2 MARINES working the doors
I'm assuming there are only 2 doors then? I'm just remembering the Cyber X Games fiasco not too long ago, and the security holes that came with extra doors being left open for ventilation/cables... don't want that kind of thing going on.

how can they call a 300 people lan Massive? Sounds like a miniLAN to me, being used to having ~300 people lans nearly every other weekend in Denmark all highlighting into The Party after Christmas with 4500 people..

Strange a 300 LAN is the biggest yet for NY.. But explanation could be that the USA doesn't seem have the same 'big' LAN culture as several European countries.. Overhere in the Netherlands we also have several LANs that are 1000+ gamers aswell for many years now.. Next one is Netgamez 2004B (4-6 June), and I'll be there.. :)
Yeah, unfortunately there are other things you can do in America besides play video games. Luckily much of Europe doesn't seem to have that problem. Haha, nah, just seems to be a culture thing, really... most people around here seem content to play from home, if they play at all. Maybe that's related to why mass transit fails so often around here...

Cute. :P I have to say, I still find it amusing how people outside of the US still somehow think that everyone around here packs a gun. Gun ownership is fairly high, but that's largely people who have a firearm in their home. Honestly, walking around you just don't tend to run into people that are carrying weapons. It's not that there aren't gangs and stuff, but outside of the ghettos it's not a major concern.

Funny joke all the same, though. :P

Ok, lets get something straight.... I HATE that the rest of the world thinks New York CITY and New York STATE are the same thing. Our event is being held in BUFFALO, NY.... which is 9 hours away from NYC!!! This is a bunch of nerds (me included) getting together for some fun... doubt anyone going has even seen a real gun, so don't worry about that.

And as far as Western New York/Upstate/Buffalo/Greater Niagara Region is concerned, yes, this will be the largest lan ever held in the area. So if you are down with Lans and want to have fun then come. If not, knock off the flaming. :)

Hope to see some hardcore CS players represent. Sign up now @ massivelan.com

            9 hours? Big State..

Btw, I see no flaming.. Just some responses to 'biggest LAN ever in NY' by some Europeans who think a 300 gamer LAN is small (imho it's medium size)..

Mitsulan is the biggest :) http://www.mitsulan.com/ being hold by a guy from TW and if he pulls it off it will be the largest LAN in history. 5,000 gamers, 160,000 sq feet, 250,000$ in prizes. Being held in San Diego and costs 100$ to attend but 100$ is well worth it to see such an amzing thing. I'll be in Central US for a vacation then otherwise I'd go. As of right now it looks like it has no chance of happening but if enough register it will happen. I know the guy.
LOL, the $250.000 pricemoney probably comes out of the entrance fees ($100x5000=$500.000).. Well, at least that's what they hope..

Open since end of March and only 10 paid gamers yet.. And what proven experience does this Mitsulan organisation have with organising such LAN-parties? My guess? No way they're gonna fill it (not even 1/5 of it), even better 'this LAN is not gonna happen!'..

                    just my $0.02

Playing for a Danish Topclan and having attended 6 big LAN's in the last 2-3 months I can tell you this:

Playing at a LAN is a great experience if you are good. You can't imagine how nice it is to play counter-strike and have around 40-50 people behind you watching you play, and cheering & clapping whenever you do something very nice!
