Hello Valve? Can you make a bink version of just the CSS stuff? Pleeeaaasse!!!! HL2 actually makes me want to play a singleplayer game. The atmosphere is amazing. Cant wait to see what modders come up with in Source....

wow, i just watched the high res video again, noticed alot more things. the sheen on the hardwood floors is awesome, i love the lack of bad clipping throughout the entire engine. the water in aztec is awesome too, the high angle you look at it, it becomes more transparent, the lower the angle, the more refelctive it is. very very cool. and the physics!!! I would have been happy with quake 1 rendering if it had realistic physics, and now we get both! w000000

Having so little space can make your computer unstable so the extra % they save is good for them. Though I sometimes don't delete my zip's after unzipping a movie which takes up space, but eh, I have plenty of space.

Compressed: 664 megs

Uncompressed: 708 megs

Total saved space: 44 megs (roughly 6%)



I'd say 44 megs is worth the .zip file. You don't tend to get more than maybe 1% or so with a DivX video, but Quicktime .mov files still have a decent margin of compression.

If you don't even have enough hard drive space to fit 2 CD's worth of info on your computer, then why are you interested in this video in the first place? It's not like you'll be able to fit these games on your crappy computer anyway. Bite the bullet and get a bigger hard drive, or wipe off some of your porn stash, sheesh.

I don't see ads on Gamespy's sites, and I don't use ad blocking software. It tends to cause stability problems, as you're noticing. Look into other means of getting rid of advertisements, or stop complaining that the software you chose to install is causing problems.



Anyway, I'd like a better quality copy than the 664meg cam copy... at least it's a stable cam, but anybody know if there's a chance of seeing the original feed?

Yeah, I agree with Nighthawk. 44MB can be a huge bandwidth saving, considering that thousands of people are downloading this file.

Hmm, downloaded the video, some gaming goodness in there. I was playing Wolfenstein 3D yesterday and it's amazing to see how far we've come.

Anyway, this is definitely cool, but I'm still more excited about CS2, whenever it comes out. I mean, seriously... HL2 supports drivable vehicles in multiplayer. We're not talking about the old-school APC in siege here. You just have to wonder if we're gonna get the chance to sit in the turret of a HMMWV, speeding around and mowing down any T's dumb enough to stray from cover... :)



Not to mention the rag-doll effects when you hit them going 90mph... haha. :) That would almost be funnier if they kept the death view in 1st person like it used to be... see stuff just flashing by as your limp body does somersaults in the air, haha.

that's called desert combat, not cs. damn cs is popular because of its gameplay and not because it uses niche gameplay. i want to play cs, not dersert combat.

6% difference for the sake of convienience (less hd space, watch while downloading) is a good trade off i think. maybe these servers that host it can save 6% off their bill. fine by me, if thats what their business model says. but once this file is out, it will be hosted by universities (where bandwidth is not an issue) and by torrent seeders.



gayspys website is bursting full of adverts, its almost obscene. ive disabled all my ad blockers. it still kills my IE. thanks for the advice on uninstalling my adblocker, i will do that once i find out how the start menu works.



compressing it as a .mov was a good idea though, quicktime is a lot less cpu intensive for high res videos, at a cost of size of course.
