    interview: aztec 2

Bet you didn't see this one coming! Narby is finishing up work on his latest map, the sequel to the ever-popular de_aztec. In this CS-Nation exclusive interview, I spoke with narby about Aztec2, which just might be making its way into Counter-Strike. The interview is packed with lots of screenies and information, here's a tidbit:
CS-Nation: Aztec is certainly known for its quirks. It has always been accused of being too one-sided, or too sniper-friendly. Did you see these quirks as negative traits and a need for change in Aztec2? Or did you see them as one of the map's memorable styles of play, and simply expand on them?

narby: I certainly want aztec2 to be more balanced. I've had a lot of help from clan Sclam (as you know you cheeky little ewok) with practice sessions to get the timing tuned. It's impossible to say right now how exactly the map will play in matches for example, but I can always release tweaked versions through steam later on.

Same here. A lot of people I know dislike Aztec for reasons ranging from drops in fps to the frequency of AWPfests, but I love the hell out of it. I've seen a lot of shitty Aztec ripoffs using the same texture set, but a professionally done sequel would be awesome. The screenies look hot. I cannot wait.

...^^^ i know that was my first thought too when i saw the huge water corridor leading to both bombsites....plant the bomb and then awp the water...one route for defusal down or at least diminished

The awp will still be a part of this map, but there are a lot of options for both teams. It's really hard to tell how a map will play in leagues without scrimming it, but i think it will be a lot of fun.

thats good to hear...i am not one to bitch about awpfests..and i have not played the map to discover the alternate methods to reach the bombsites...i was just trying to say that if it came down to awp vs awp in the water constantly...it would get old...i realize that the awp is an intricate part of the game and that well sometimes overused...it does serve its purpose under most circumstances and i welcome that...

and on another note...i havent played cs really in quite a few months but this really makes me want to get back into it...hope the map is released soon!!!...but by all means take your time narby

While Aztec isn't one of my favorite maps, I really think Narby is a great mapper, and I'll be looking forward to this.

didn't cs-nation already say something a few months ago about narby redoing aztec again?

nah I don't think this is going to be popular...the screens show that the map is too de_tornish, for me atleast. And talking about the first one - the aztec in 1.5 was the best, why was that changed anyway...since the changes in 1.6 I switched my fav. map from aztec to dust2

Torn is a huge map with no flow. This map is not like that at all.
