No I've played, and played through many games. Half-Life held my number one favorite game but Far Cry usurped that game once I had a system good enough to handle it.

I played the Far Cry demo, it reminded me of Serious Sam.

I hate to burst your bubble Dirk... but FarCry rocks because of the gameplay, not because it's pretty. It may not be the best game I've ever played, but it's up there. And I've played a hell of a lot of games (PC and otherwise) since I was a wee boy. Since this isn't FarCry-Nation, I'll shut up for now, but I could talk endlessly about why it is so wonderful.

How much of the game have you played? What makes it so crappy in your mind? For starters, the AI is fantastic. The enemies watch each other's backs, flank you, and are very good shots. But if you are stealthy, they don't just omnisciently know where you are. They act like real people. And when you raise the alarm, more enemies don't just appear out of thin air, they're brought in by helicopter or boat to support their comrades. You face different types of enemies (with drastically different methods of attack and other behavior) periodically throughout the game, which keeps things interesting. The gameplay is incredibly open-ended (in one level I failed at assaulting a heavily-entrenched encampment from a couple of different angles, so I picked off the driver and gunner of a heavily-armed patrol boat with a sniper rifle, swam out to the boat, and used the boat's machine gun and rocket launcher to assault the camp successfully. And that's just one scenario of many where multiple paths exist for completing objectives. You almost always have a bunch of ways to approach a goal, even if that means traipsing halfway across an island for 10 minutes, which is fun anyway.). The levels are varied between all kinds of indoor and outdoor environments. The choice of weaponry isn't too expansive, but each weapon has it's strengths and is well balanced. Since you can only carry four weapons at once, you have to find the right combination so that each weapon you carry fits into it's own niche in combat, which can be challenging given the difficulty of the game. You can't just run around with guns blazing because you'll get capped in short order. You really have to think and plan carefully to succeed. The story is well laid out, although a little campy, and gets deeper as you go through the game. It takes much longer to beat than most first-person shooters that have come out over the last couple of years, so it has more value than many others. And the graphics do happen to be some of the best I have ever seen, which contributes to a truly immersive experience. The foliage, use of lighting and shadow, and the presence of insects, birds, and fish really draw you in. It's simply one of the best single-player first-person shooters out there. I'll admit that the multiplayer is total shit. But there's a lot about this game that any fan of FPS games should love. I'm not trying to give Dirk a hard time, or convince anybody to play the game. I just have a hard time believing that anybody who gave the game a fair shake could really think it was crappy. It got great reviews and deservedly so. HL2 and Doom 3 have a lot to live up to if they're going to be much better than FarCry.

EDIT: Sorry for going on for so long, especially off-topic. I just think so highly of FarCry. Please forgive my fanboy longwindedness.

It's definitely no "Mike Tyson's Punch Out". Watch out Little Mac! Here comes Soda Popinski!

I played it over half way through and got increasingly tired of it. I thought it was shallow. I thought the story could of been tons better than it was if they hadn't spent 90% of their time working on the graphics instead of other features in the game it might of been good.

That's not a mod that's an old version of the game ported to steam. CS-Nation only supports the latest version of CS.

because its not new, they started it a long time ago, and it lasted about a few weeks before it was basically dead. it comes back every bad steam update :\

it's steam based now and actually popular since its only 100mb where as before you had to install half-life from the cd and then update to 1.3.

have you seen the new 1.5 "mod"?

it's 1.5 with cz sounds rofl.
