People who know nothing about Server Hardware or Networking should just refrain from making any comments, except for the fact that they can.

Who knows, but it seems that number is pulled out of thin air anyway. 5 or 6 private servers wouldn't really be insane, though.

Yeah we all know that because of DMA, your hard disk never spins or is accessed.....LOL

yea but 5 or 6? that seems like a bit too many :\ , they probably be running other things such as hltv, vent, ftp, etc. But wouldn't you be able to notice if they were running multiple dedicated servers on one machine by looking at the port numbers used? for instance if your server is running on 27017, instead of the normal 27015.
It is done....multiple Public IP addressed assigned on the same machine.

it all depends on how many hard drives, how many processors and how large the processors are and how much ram they run. The faster the hard drives, the more processors and faster the processors and the more RAM the more servers that can be put on a machine theoritically but also the better the server will perform. If say you determined a 20 player CS server uses 1.5 GHz of processing power and 256MB of RAM. The game server will run smoother if you are running 2 of those servers on a 3.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM then 1 server would on a 1.5 GHz processor with 256MB of RAM.

no....yawn....dma lowers cpu usage a lot by giving the disk direct memory access. this is basic stuff.

And while that's true... you may still have to wait for disk IO... should be negligable though... all that aside, I'm sure they monitor the performance of their machines and are aware of how many servers they're able to squeeze onto a machine without adversly affecting performance

It is a sad sad day when I see people like this. This is counter-strike one big happy family, where people can come to play and talk regardless of where they are from what skin colour they are and what religion the believe in, it really is a sad day when one man decides to rebel against the community, your a disgrace to everything CS stands for. What happens outside of CS should stay outside of CS, with all the arguing and wars etc in the world, cs is the one place you can rely on to play with people regardless of any judgments, please for the sake of the community just grow up.

lol the fact is there's more adverts on csn than your shit tv stations which show them like every 3 mins, in europe we live in a relatively advertising free society, which allows us to make our own decisions. if rizzuh wants to cover his site with ads he can and if i want to moan about it i can.

i suppose its not THAT bad as some other corporate sites like gamespy and ign. whose sole purpose is to aquire other enterprises/companies to increase their share price value.
