Everyone had high expectations, I think that's where the suck factor is born and raised. It wasn't that bad!

That's why they used the para...they didn't want an overly powerful gun...also, the forum has a spell check...it'd catch your misspellings of bullocks and everything
Bollocks to the Para, replace it with with the M60. The Para has shite accuracy, shite power, shite ROF, shite eveything 'cept capacity.
As for my thoughts on CZ...I like the new bots...I think Deleted Scenes would've been the better single-player, provided they fixed it up a bit, and gave it a real ending. The CZ single player also needs T missions, though I can understand why they'd avoid that.
I do, however, agree that taking out a jet with an awp (and an UMP, which does jack to it) was not a very well-planned mission objective...It would've been better to have the player take out the terrorists before they get to the jet.
Overall, my 40 dollars could've been better spent, but I don't really mind.
And, as for the AMD vs. Intel thing...I love my AMD--it has never given me any problems, nor did the one I had before it. My parents have far more trouble with their P4...AMD is cost-effective, too. But it is just a matter of preference beyond that.Comment

its pretty dissapointing on the whole. its not that bad, the bots are quite the challenge, but putting money down for it is questionable since other than bots and a little extra fluff on the old maps, there is nothing new. condition zeros's final incarnation seems better suited as a patch rather than a stand alone product
personnally i love how the box is plastered with ritual content and there are only 2 or 3 small pictures of the accual game. i wonder how many people foolishly dished out money thinking it was a revamped cs... pretty sneaky tactic ;pComment

The trouble with discussing this is that almost every first person shooter that comes out is all based on some implementation of the old Quake engine. (One could go back to Doom, but more often games like UT2k4 are simply overhaul extensions using updated graphics cards abilities to do things like pixel shaders) Sorry to say, but new coding styles for things like collision detection, dynamic lighting, lightmaps, rendering pipelines, z-buffer techniques, etc. have now been around for at least a little while and usually the best methods are adopted in a first person shooter. So unless Valve somehow rewrote the book on 1st person shooters (which I assume they did not do by saying 60% of the code is still IDs), it along with almost every other 1st person shooter is based on techniques that have already been done. Netcode and other extensions like you mentioned of course could very well be much different from IDs old stuff, but the 3D opengl or directx is probably based off of IDs work.
I strongly believe that your wrong. about 2 years ago, i discussed a topic just like this about how old the hl engine really is. So i decided to do some research. In the end i found out that HL's engine is about (or was about) 60% ID's technology. Valve basically made better textures, better effects, Better AI, and maps. Most of the code was kept from the other engine's made by ID. Therefore HL's engine would have to be considered about 8 years old because its using 8 year old technology.
Im sure i kept my research on a cd. Ill go look for it later on.
Of course though valve over updates, made it more of there engine. One major update i can remember was the time when all the mods didnt work because of some reason. Valve drastically changed the net code, vgui, and a hole bunch of other things. Today, HL's engine is maybe 20% or less of ID's technology. But i know for a fact that it was once basically a heavily modified Quake 1 mod.
If im wrong please prove it, for i dont want to carry false information about this topic.
So I agree with WooFerPPK.Comment

Quake didn't use opengl or directx.
Of course there is glquake but i think valve wrote their own renderer.
But I don't think there are any official specifics as to who did what; if there are, I would like to see them so 6 years later we can finally stop debating about it.Comment

i was thinking....y buy cz for 40 bux if u can buy other gr8 games like doom3 and ut2004? i wonder how valve expected to get any $ from cz...
P.S. any of u guys wondering where to get cz multiplayer free?....just dlled the cz map pack and unzip it into ur maps folder....voila.Comment

ah.. tried the game.. and they want us to pay $30 just for the for bots and map updates?
Rituals missions are still much better than those "Map Updates" ..although the bots do need some improvements, at least sometimes you do some kind of recon there and witness fun scripted sequences...
Btw, 3/4-way through Turtle Rock's "compaign" (or should I say offline bot training) I began using the crappy "bot_kill and bot_knives_only" commands.. why? just tell me how the heck do you kill the bloody bots camping in cs_militia house in hard difficulty???
Right after that map, the missions become exactly like bot training...
ah.. nothing interesting.. cz is just a waste of money..
don't buy it.. save money for more important games (Doom 3?)
P.S. played the game but $0 spent 8)

Are you really glad that this game is out, instead of knowing that they're working on a CS2 as we speak?
shadow dragon, i really hope they're working on a better CS2, i wouldn't want it to turn out like CZ, i don't like CZ! The point is putting CZ on source wouldn't have made it a much better game (gameplay wise, though the physics would be cool). And i know they're going to make CS2, they want the money :)Comment

Tell you the truth, 75% of all players wouldn't care for the bots. I certainly don't. They are easy, predictable, and terrible. Why bother playing with bots when you can just as easily go on line and shoot some real people? Or download pod-bot and play the new maps. It's not worth the 39.99 for boths and download-able maps.

Ok, this is where I feel you(and others who feel the same way) are wrong. I have played PODbots ever since thier inception into the CS scene and I will say the CZ bots are in many ways far superior to the PODs and far more life-like to a human-counterpart. The PODbots are good and well coded to the point they are pretty much cheap, but they don't have a very complex decision process like the CZ bots as they are highly dependant on waypoints and the skill of a waypointer. The CS bots are much more believeable and actually "think" and respond for the lack of a better term, they interact far more with you during a round. They will respond to events happening within a round much better than POD's and try alternative tactics to win a map and/or kill you in the process all while keeping in constant radio or "voice" contact. To those of us who enjoy offline play or "single player" alot mind you,(and just plain want to avoid STEAM altogether) the $40 price tag is well worth it in addition to the extra content with the new/updated maps,(which are VERY nicely done, far more realistic looking than the older ones) "Tony Hawk" competition style play scenerios and the Deleted Scenes episodes to mix up the styles of play.

So, to any of you who feel CZ isn't worth it, then don't buy it, no one is holding a gun to your head to get it. IMO, don't waste your time (or your precious money)griping to those of us here who do happen to like it because you don't like it or feel it's worth it. There are those of us who like playing CZ, happily paid the $40 for it and will continue to enjoy the game. As the old adage goes, just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it sucks! GET OVER IT and yourself, THANKS!Comment
