Bah! Yet another mailbag I missed. Where does it tell you that mailbag submissions are being accepted?

btw, I was really looking forward to Gearbox's version. I remember reading that it would have several different CT factions, and their uniforms would differ in different countries. Also, I think I remember a co-operative mode.
I haven't bought CZ, and I don't plan to. I have ADSL & I play with a clan. Online is the only way to go for me, but a year ago, I would have bought it definitely. A year ago, I was a n00b and a 56ker. CZ was perfect for me then.Comment

The biggest problem with Condition Zero is Turtle Rock Studios. If you wanted a single player imitation of the classic multiplayer, you download POD bot or some other free bot set. The remapped maps make Counter-Strike look more realistic. The new maps have similiar portions stolen, i use the word loosely, from the Deleted Scenes.
Personally, I enjoyed the deleted scenes except for the fact that Valve opted not to release all of them. I would be much happier with CS: CZ if the last few deleted scenes were released. The entire Counter-Terrorist campaign was fun, and the scripted sequences brought a smile to my face, but the game seemed like it was still in beta. With the innovation of Steam, this could be changed....Comment

On this edition of "The Mailbag," Don gets in a shootout with a Columbian drug gang, Bill and Mary try to fight their feelings for each other, and will Tom take the job in Malibu and leave the force?
Dammit, I read the whole mailbag, and nothing about any of the promised storylines.
Worst.
Mailbag.
Ever.

Err I would hate for this to turn into a AMD vs. Intel rivalry, but the person at hand wasn't discussing AMD's speed, rather he was bashing that more AMD processors have problems than Intel processors. Next time read the comment before you post please!
Wow i should hunt you down and decapitate you you intel suckup... AMD > Intel Anyday...
AMD processors use less cycles but have more power than a pentium pos processor. AMD 1.8ghz is better than a pentium 4 2.5... i have tested many diferent processors, overclocked amds and overclocked pentiums... amd processors always win out in graphics and pc benchmarking... Take your head out of your ass man!
Oh yea, and funny mailbag! I am definitely going to be saving my money and spending it on something other than CZ.Comment

I can't help by feel dissapointed in the game. Sure its a great tool for newbies to learn from, but what about us loyal CS fans who've been waiting for this for years?
One thing that "irks" me, is the fact that the maps were taken from CS Xbox. I love the new looks, don't get me wrong... but I feel like after waiting sooo long they should have thrown in some more maps or at least updated Train/Nuke? Whats the deal with Volstok being left out too?
All I find myself playing is the multiplayer because for a seasoned CS player, those single player missions are just laughable. Some new models or guns (which really ain't much to ask for) would have made all the difference, but for some reason (lack of effort?) they were left out.
It just seems like some small finishing touches could have been applied that would have really saved the game. I feel like its an injustice to CS to have let this take so long and then let this be the final product. I find it hard to talk my 1.6 playing friends into buying the game just so we can play on the same server now. Really the only reason I play it over 1.6 is because it feels a tad smoother and the updated maps are cooler.
If Valve releases an update that makes the people who didnt buy CS:CZ jealous, then everything can change. Until then, whats the point in buying it if you've already been playing 1.6 for quite some time?Comment

Erm...its the HL engine. And it was created by valve. and it has been the HL engine ever since its release in 1998. yes valve did get some inspiration to their coding from ID, but the end result is the HL engine. and its not 5 years old, the last time it was updated was around a year or less ago (1998 - ver 1.0.0.0; 2004 - 1.1.1.1).
I would like to fix this error up, The engine itself was originally created by ID software for quake 1 in 1996. There is also a bit of quake 2 engine which i believe dealed with lightning. So technically the engine is about 7-8 years old. Don't forget though Valves version is heavily modified, but look at how much work they did to an old quake 1 engine.Comment

Ive not bought cs:cz and dont really have any plan to. However i have rented the Xbox version and was somewhat dissapointed. The bots are a good idea, and they function quite well as i was fortunate to beta test them in 1.6. However the appeal of bots after a couple of weeks in the 1.6 beta test dropped rapidly as they cannot compete to the real multiplayer experience. Instead of buying cs:cz people looking for the cz multiplayer experience can just download the same new cz maps for cs 1.6. I must say the de_aztec_cz is awfully pretty for a game based on the old hl engine.Comment

The truth is that CZ was a big disappointment. We were expecting so much more and we never got it. This lame excuse for a mailbag just shows how CS-Nation and its team members suck up to Valve as Valve are watching these guys. Valve know that this website attracts most of the CS community and Rizzuh and the crew basically have a job to try and make Valve look good. I bet you there were many more negative comments but the author did not decide to include them as it would make Valve look bad. I love the way you ended it with a positive comment. But hey, what do you expect, this is the #1 CS news site and of course there going to praise the title. It just annoys me the way they are being nice to Valve to try and not make them look bad. Kind of fan boyish and quite frankly a disgrace. We all know when we first saw CZ (Gearbox's version) that it was going to be such an awsome game with the new weapons, maps and of course the models. In the end we got none of this. CZ online IS just 1.6 with the same maps just upgraded. CZ online was orginally going to have many new maps that we had never seen before, new weapon models, and it would also include specific player models for each map (as mentioned above). In the end though we got none of this and what a dissapointment CZ turned out to be. How dare you CSN staff say you were "satisfied" or "happy" with the how the game turned out cause we all know that is a lie. Stop showing your love for Valve and tell the truth about the game.appended @ [time="1082485571"]
I also noticed that the author of the mail bag says to one of the posters on there that they are one of the first person he has seen who prefered Ritual's Deleted Scenes over Turtle Rock's. Um, what is he talking about? Have you been living under a shell? If you look around in various forums and going by general feedback, MANY people prefered Deleted Scenes over Turtle Rock's. But yet again, the author goes and supports Valve as Valve really wanted to scrap Deleted Scenes and use Turtle Rock's version as the main single player.Comment

If it's ever available for 5 bucks, I'll buy it. Otherwise I'm waiting for something a bit better graphically.
As far as single player goes, I want a game that'll have 'beat time' of 20 hours minimum, and replay value of 40 additional hours. I also want all single player games to incorporate multiplayer in some way.
If I'm paying 70 bucks for a game, I want it to last 70 bucks worth.
Someday I'm going to be a game designer and programmer and then we'll see how innovative games can be.Comment

The Deleted Scenes were horrible because the AI was garbage and the missions were too damn easy, and some were quite unrealistic.
The damage done by someone hacking you with their machete was insanely low, being able to survive a AWP shot, trying to shoot a HIND helicopter with a machine gun, shooting a Harrier fighter jet with a AWP?! If Ritual put some more thought into their missions and had a better bot AI, (like the ones Turtle Rock bots) maybe the version of CZ Ritual had planned to put out would've made it.
At least the CZ maps look great. Too bad they didn't use those other player models.Comment
