    Surprise! Steam Update!

When I clicked on my Steam icon, located within my quick-launch task-bar, I was surprised to see auto-update feature activating. This update concerns the actual Steam client, along with some account improvements.
An update to the Steam client has just been released. There are no changes to the games in this release, only to Steam itself. As always, Steam will update itself automatically when you restart. Here's a list of what's included:
    • improved startup time for the steam client

    • added the ability to retrieve account names using a cd key or contact email address (by using the "retrieve account" button on steam's login dialog

    • added user's steam account name to the initial "loading..." dialog
As usual, you will have to restart your Steam client for these changes to take effect. But don't take my word for it, go pay a visit the Steam website.

No, you don't need to restart your computer, you only need to restart your Steam client.

Pardon me for being dense, but what purpose does this serve exactly? I'm not trying to be rude, I just don't get it.

Yah...supposing you lose your username and/or password, you can get it back if you have your CD key handy. You can only use a CD key once.

Also, anybody who says that Steam sucks only says it because they know it's them who sucks.

They implemented this to solve a problem myself and many others were having recently.

Say - you create and account with a username and password and then stop playing for a while. When you go back to the game and have to log in, you can't even remember which username/password combination you used for steam (in this day and age of so many passwords/usernames its not a hard thing to do) so you try to create a new account, with your HLkey, but since it locks your CDkey to your first account, you cant create a new one.

Only if you're still using the same email address as you did for the first account, will you be able to retrieve your password, but you still wont know what your username is, and even if you do remember it, the Steam email system has been known to be slow sometimes (perhaps due to heavy use).

Fortunately, I was lucky enough to eventually remember my username/password combination.

It's a good idea to implement this retrieve feature.

Hmmmm now I can see which HL CD keys of mine are being used.

Also, if someone steals someones CD key, and you trace it back to the user, could you contact Valve and get the thief anally raped?

Hmmm... if you type a CD key in, it just sends an email to the person who has that CDkey. Hmm... well, if someone has stolen a CDkey, could you contact Valve anyway?

I'm just saying hypothetically. I don't think anyone has used any of my CD keys, but I would like to know. Unused Steam HL CD keys can be very useful trading materials

                              Edit in bold

Especially if some sites (cough*SK's site*cough) force you to use a password that has Upper case AND lower case AND number(s).

Jesus Christ it's not an online bank! I just want to download SK PLAYER!
