    No Price Changes.. Yet

Jess Cliffe of Valve has updated the community on the progress of some weapon cost changes that were in discussion earlier this week.
Thanks for the input everyone! The "good for pubs, bad for matches" aspect has sent us back to the proverbial drawing board. A good solid discussion but changes that are probably simply overly radical. Cheers.
If you missed it, here's a full list of what was proposed by Jess.

Thanks to DaanO for his news submissions.

I think lowering prices for the tmp and other guns would have been a good idea. The fact that the guns everybody loves would have been raised in price made everybody angry.

Yeah, we need to encourage people to use the lesser known guns.

I think they could get away with lowering the price of the p228, Five-Seven, P90, Mac 10, TMP, and UMP with hardly anyone upset about it. They could even go ahead with the plan to balance the TMP and Mac 10 even further.

What has everyone in an uproar is the fact they might break the dominance of the five weapons. The AK-47, M4A1, AWP, MP5, and the Deagle.

I don't think they should give up in trying to implement these changes in some form or another.

They have to be worth using first of all. Changing the prices might encourage them to be bought for a few rounds, but they simply aren't good weapons. Every weapon should have a specific purpose that it only excels at. When guns like the colt and ak47 excel in almost every area, there is hardly a need to buy any other weapon.

I really do believe that the SMG changes proposed are going to be pushed ahead, and that this is a very good thing indeed. Also, the M249 will in all likelyhood either get damage/accuracy changes or a price drop.

The status of the pistols at this point is anyone's guess.

w00t, better accuracy with mac10! and its cheaper! I love the mac10, it owns on smaller maps like office. :)

i am soooo bored using only 5 weapons in the game. i have a few small maps running on my server that have assault rifles restricted. it's fun..reminds me of "back in the day" when the MP5 was more of a force in the game. i hope Valve decides to implement some of these changes. having to re-learn the game and create new strategies keeps it interesting after so many years.

Go with some price changes just don't go crazy by upping prices too far. I think THAT was the major complaint about all of this, namely the AK price that jumped so drastically.

I agree. Most people would have stomached a $2,700 or $2,800 AK, but not $3,000.

So the Colt price stays the same, the Deagle price stays the same, the AK gets incresed by just $500 but is still is less than the Colt, the AWP increased by just $250 and the MP5 increased by just $200, and the players couldn't handle that? I'm amazed people are still playing the game with all the changes since version 1.0 that they can't handle paying a bit more cash to buy the user friendly guns that get the most kills.
