buy it on cd its much more smart... for example if you download it and your computer dies and you have to reinstall steam from scratch... you will have to redownload hl2. you really want to do that? i'd rather have a cd its faster. like i remember i had a virus and i had to reinstall windows xp and kill everything on my hard drives, when i reinstalled steam i had to re-get all my games, really annoying.

the cd will most likely cost more but will have books and stuff of the game like manuals and a nice box too... so why download hl2 when you dont get a box and manual... :P

actually hl2 should be cheaper considering cs:cz was cheaper. I think I remember them saying that purchasing games through steam would always be at least partially cheaper than buying the games in the store considering you get no cd's/manuals.
Condition Zero was cheaper? No it wasn't. It was $39.95 just like at any other store.

God Like, as you could put it from a UT2004 stand point. Or even better, CAR JACKED!

Actually like david_mas just said it was 29.95 thats $10 cheaper. I know that I would never read the manuals and the cd's would just get scratched so I would rather save $10.

It was only $29.95 for 3 or 4 weeks and that was only a promotion and there's no guarantee that HL2 will have the same kind of promotion. After the promotion ended, the price went back up to $39.95.

Also forgot to factor in shipping costs and stuff like that.

does preloading the game and buying via steam give you CS:S also for free?

I'm quite sure the answer to that question is, yes. I believe that buying HL:2 will give you access to CS:S, not mattering which form you buy HL:2 in. I'm sure this has been answered somewhere else.

I just fell asleep on my couch and had a dream that I was in a castle. Castles are dirty.
