    Half-Life 2 Preloading Round 2

Tonight, the second phase of the Half-Life 2 preload begins. If you're interested in picking up the second phase, restart your Steam clients and grab a snack while the files find their way to your computer.
The second phase of the Half-Life 2 preload begins to Steam account holders today.

This will allow users to download the majority of the audio of Half-Life 2 in encrypted form. No purchase is required to pre-load Half-Life 2, but is required to activate the game. The moment the game is made available, those who have pre-loaded and purchased Half-Life 2 via Steam will be ready to start playing right away.

i probably want to get it at ebgames since I have almost a 40 dollar credit there and I never buy any other games... so might as well use it up and get the game for about 20 bucks :)

so, does this mean we're close to release date?

Well I am getting collectors edition. So preloading is useless for me.

well its not useless, but not as useful. you'd save some time. you'd just be able to plunk in your cd key and play, instead of having to install off the cds.

I want to buy the CD only because games via Steam lag. My rig is pretty good and Opposing Forces played like crap when I decided to hit it out of boredom. Imagine HL2.

I think that it will be the same price.

actually hl2 should be cheaper considering cs:cz was cheaper. I think I remember them saying that purchasing games through steam would always be at least partially cheaper than buying the games in the store considering you get no cd's/manuals.

                          That's entirely inaccurate.

Umm even if you have the cd don't you still have to play it through steam?
