    Steam Update Analyzed

Gamers.nu has written an article reflecting on the now infamous Steam update. It addresses all the modifications, from the new de_cbble spawn points to the fixed flashbang bugs, this patch contains, with welcomed pictures to go along with the detailed info.
VALVe also changed the flashbang bugs. What bugs, you say. They were fixed ages ago. No, not really, if your enemy puts a flashbang right up your face, you're definitely blind. But if the enemy then throws another flash behind you, while you're flashed, instead of adding the amount of time you're flashed, it lowers it to the last flashbang you've seen. In theory, one flashbang cancels out the other instead of adding anything to it.
Although the article states this patch has contained a sniper rifle zoom bug, it should be noted that this has been present before the update. Regardless, check it out here.

That's a nice article. I hope less people will cry abut useless shit and get the fuck over it, whether they read it or not.

Yep twas a good article that pretty much stated the facts of the update without resorting to the whining seen in most of the forums.

All I can say is while we had the flashbang bug I experienced it a few times and actually if one was thrown and another like milisecond after they would cancel out completely instead of waiting for the first.

If anyone has been playing CZ, then these changes to cbble should look a bit familiar.

Oooh hoo.... I forgot about the crate changes I made. I'm so glad the author noticed them and even got the reasoning right!

The crate at the large bomb site was another defensive entity, and the one by the hallway was also to give extra cover. As for the lighting, I was always fond of a darker Cobble, with all the contrast... but that said, whatever happened that made it brighter (whether it was a decision at Valve or I forgot to incude the correct .rad file), it'll probably appeal to lots of people.

A very good read, but doesn't address the AWP switching issue.

Most people think the AWP now has a delay between a shot and scoping simple because they switch weapons and back (i.e. exploit the fastswitch bug). If they just remained with the AWP without switching, there would be no difference.

It sure is funny to see 3 AWPers in de_dust getting knifed because people know they cannot adapt to the changes.

Why did they have to fix that bug on de_nuke? Y'know, the one where you could see under the crate at the ramp (clans will know about this one). I used to love watching under the crate for activity, then I'd (aim slightly up) spray and hit the advancing T's thru the crate.

Isn't it though :) I can now compete with some of the better awpers since they can't fast switch.

Now I've played with it abit more, this update is actually pretty good. I haven't noticed de_nuke being brighter, but I play with stupidly high brightness and gamma anyway and not all that much contrast on my moniter, so I guess lighting changes won't effect me that much anyway. Overall, good update, and good article.
