CS-Maps.org More Maps Than You Can Eat

Many of you probably know about www.CS-Maps.us, the #1 spot for all of your mapping needs. Bandwidth was scarce for them but not anymore. www.CS-Maps.org, the new primary domain for CS-Maps, has arrived! VUGaming Networks has stepped in to host their site with a crazy amount of bandwidth. You can now download maps without any type of hassle, especially that "page not found" error.

Tired of running de_dust all the time? Looking for a change? Head over to CS-Maps.org and you'll find more maps than you can eat.

Also, remember to sign-up in their forums for the latest in mapping news.

whoever writes the FAQs on that site obviously knows nothing. He gives usp 1 star, and the glock 2 stars. He gives the TMP and the ump45 4 stars, while the AK gets 3 stars.

perhaps he was basing his stars on the age old "diputs scale" which gives more stars to weapons which will less likely achieve long range headshots.

on a more relevant note, jolt.us turned up practically any google search done for a map, yet it was rarely dl'able from there. one would have better luck getting it from jolt.uk (unlikely as well). This change is very welcome, and will hopefully benefit many.

Going really fast for me. But it looks like the download counter that he is using makes the download take a long time to start but after it starts, I download at top speed.

yeah, i stuck with it, and it turns out that while each individual page takes a while to load, the downloading of the maps is fast.. which i guess is what really matters.

hey -- any suggestions for maps to download? i dont play many custom maps, but i feel like i'm missing out by just playing dust2.

and also, am i the only one who loves the underplayed maps? like chateau? piranisi? airstrip!?

the new trees in piranisi are beautiful.

                I like de_chateau, too!

                I like cs_havana as well.

Haven't played them since 1.6 though. My favourite server decided not to upgrade itself to 1.6 and the server I go to now doesn't have chateau or havana in its map-cycle.

The reason people hate de_piranisi is the same reason they tend to hate de_torn -- it may look nice, but looking nice and playing nice are two very different things. Mainly, they're just too spread out, especially in the case of piranisi. If you pick the wrong bombsite to check, you don't have a prayer in hell of getting to the other site in time to defuse.

Too many routes and too large of a map results in confusion and a general feeling of not having many "safe" zones to go to, which also makes a map less popular. Even de_survivor isn't very popular due to too many routes, and I'm going to guess that the "feeling unsafe" aspect hurts cs_havana's popularity.

Anyway, glad to see the bandwidth improvement with the server change, though I'm still annoyed by the stupid "you can't highlight any text on our site" crap scripting. It's not like we can't just do a view - source and get the same text if we want, so all it accomplishes is being annoying. (I have a tendency to highlight as I read, so I find it particularly annoying when a site disables it.)

Ah well, in the end I tend to find that with custom maps, the problem often isn't that I don't have the map that I'd like to try out, but rather that I can't find a server running it. Seems like most of the custom map servers out there are all running fy_ and aim_ maps a large portion of the time.

Anybody remember playing cs_militia2_movie? That was a freaking fun map, but it disappeared in a couple of weeks. Now it's hard to even find servers running maps like de_comrade (whatever happened with narby's de_quarry, anyway?) or some of those other highly anticipated and well-done maps.

hmm... there is something to be said about feeling unsafe though, nighthawk.

i like having to think on multiple levels, and while piranisi was extremely hard to learn, once i know where things are, its not so bad.

i dont like feeling completely secure all of the time, like i do playing de_dust. i like to shake it up. i wish more people did too.

I don't like dust, dust2, or aztec. Why? Because over 97% of all servers are playing them. It is very incredibly boring.

I like piranesi, especially with lots of people, because there's room for all the people. For a 1v1 or 2v2, or even up to 5v5, it's probably too big though. But it's a great map for that 16v16, unlike dust where everyone just dies.

One of my favorite maps is cs_backalley, which I like being either T or CT on. It's the map I'm best at, and I usually get kicked or the map gets changed very quickly, usually to dust, dust2, or aztec.

I, for one, like variety. I don't mind playing a map I don't know, learning it. All the time I get people saying "I hate this map" and when I ask why, they say something like "I don't know it." So they don't know it, they never play it, they continue to never know it, and they continue to never play it. They go back to dust, dust2, and aztec.

I mean, nothing against dust, dust2 and aztec, they're great maps, I just get tired of not being able to find anything except them.

De_inferno, cs_backalley, cs_italy (to some extent), de_piranesi for lots of people, de_train, de_nuke, there's lots of good maps out there. as_oilrig is also pretty good, except people just don't have a clue how to play an AS map.

I'm also tired of custom maps that are only 'fight' maps. Like fy_anything, or awp_map. That just gets boring.

cs_militia and cs_assault are okay, but they're very T oriented. Unless there's a serious unbalancing of skill, the T's pretty much always win.

Anyway, I like the different 'environments' of the other maps. Backalley with it's...back...alley. Dust with it's dust. Aztec with it's storm, although I do have to turn off the rain, unfortunately. Office. Inferno, italy. I get tired of running around in the desert or whatever over and over and over.

Well, that's enough of a rant from me. I hope this site helps people play more and different maps.

Thortok2000, I agree with you completely.

You know what's strange, I've been playing CS since around Beta 5 or 6, and the first map I ever remember playing on was cs_docks. And I dont know why that map was phased out... cs_siege was huge too! (I would still play siege if they would fix that sound bug... its so annoying)

I guess what I'm thinking is that over time the popular maps have changed, and I dont know if thats just my limited perspective, luck, or interest, but it seems that we need some new blood pumped into this game. Why not incorporating a custom map of the month, handpicked by the CS team, that would be put onto rotation on some of the biggest and most popular servers...? Much in the same way radiostations play certain songs on rotation....

                          thoughts?

Doesn't VUGAMING host the Chipmunk Ninja's site? If so, good game to CSMaps cause I stopped going to CMN's site long ago due to constant downtime and slow service.
