Upon downloading the cache file, all you need to play is an activation code that will likely be sent via email. Bottom line, you'll be playing CS:CZ over Steam long before the stores open on release day.

I REALLY wanted to support Valve and was seriously considering purchasing CZ. But honestly I'm so fed up with both the bugs in Steam and CS 1.6 as well as all the changes to what CZ was SUPPOSED to be; I just can't show my support for Valve anymore.

Not till they get their act together more anyway.

Almost sounds like the game is out from the first line, "Doug Lombardi has announced Counter-Strike: Condition Zero can be now purchased through Steam starting on this day." Why doesn't he say it can now be pre-ordered if the game isn't out. If you can play the minute the game is released go valve, but the reality will probably be that you will be able to play the week after the game is released and people quit hammering the servers. With what happens with just simple updates over steam i don't think it is anywhere near the bandwidth to handle a full-fledged game release. I bet all of steam goes down within two hours of CZ coming out... I'll probably just go buy it in the stores a while after it comes out so then I'll have a CD to install it with and won't have to wait to download it over steam every time I want to re-install.

I'm almost not considering buying it because I know that if there are bugs in the software at release they might never be fixed. There are some damn annoying bugs that I've reported (many times) since 1.6 came out over steam and not a single one of them has been fixed or even addressed by a developer. If they can't update simple things in 1.6 that they've had many many many months to fix why should I expect them to fix any bugs (even major) in a new product that works with some annoyances from the bugs. If valve took the initative and fixed some bugs in 1.6 that have been there since the beginning then I'd want to buy CZ more.

Actually, I believe that you once you've pre-ordered the game, you can download it over the next couple of weeks, and you get an activation key on March 23rd. That way the bandwidth hit the servers would take if everyone tried to download it all at once is instead disseminated over a longer period. I think.

Meh, I can (and will) just wait for the local Gamestation to get it in, they're usually pretty good with getting things in on-time, plus even with the 'discount' you get from ordering it over Steam, Gamestation is still cheaper by a bit. That and also I'd rather go to a store and actually pick it up and have it in my hands, then deal with it over 'tinternet.

It's nice to see VALVe using my ideas. Now if they can just do this with CS updates as well...

So this is just for single player right? Doesn't add anything to mulitplayer or anything?

As much as you always have good ideas, they pre-cached the hl2 movies way before your comment. :P

I'm thinking that the new maps/content will replace the old ones just for the owners of CZ...so you see better stuff if you own the game...

Hey, ten dollars less than buying it in a store. I'm in! Now gotta cancel my $5 to Gamestop..hmmm, need a good excuse...

Actually all of the new maps are appended with a _cz, for example de_aztec_cz. Only people with CZ will be able to play each other on the new maps.

Wow... GJ Nighthawk! Did you really email Valve suggesting this idea to them?

Anyhow, sounds cool... but I'm pretty sure somebody will find a way to crack the cache and get the game working before it's released in stores....
