So this offline stuff means nothing, because obviously you need to get into steam (which means you need an internet connection).

First, fully download the patch. Open Steam, pull your internet cable out. Exit steam, but do not log out. Open steam again. A fancy dialog shows.

I need suggestions on how to convince my student home network admins to open the steam related ports...
At our residence back at OSU, we had to pretty much go with the argument that the residences on campus are homes for the students, and as such it was fair and reasonable to expect the college network to enable students to pursue entertainment uses of the network. Admittedly, we only half-way got our wish, as packet prioritization software was implemented, and games were given the lowest priority level, which essentially meant they often lagged.

The other thing that helped us with getting our wishes was forming an on-campus club of sorts, the "Oregon Gaming Engineers" as it was, and setting up dedicated on-campus LAN game servers to help alleviate external bandwidth use. So it ended up being a give some / take some type of situation.

On a final note, I dunno how your college is set up, but there are various levels of authority. Sometimes the network guys won't try to help you out, but the housing people will, or residential life department, or whatever your particular campus has. Look around, lobby with people, and try to put whatever pressure necessary on them to get things working.

I remember petitioning to the higher powers to get to paint our CS mural on our wall in the hall of the dorms. Keeping it as an advertisement for the OGE club (as mentioned before) we were able to paint it against the will of our hall manager. :)

#44.....I've never had to wait WEEKS for a cs update before Steam.....maybe a couple hours, but you had the choice on which mirror to choose, so I favor non-steam cs. Yeah I dissed Steam, sue me.For as much hype and promise that was poured into this program, they could have matched it's anticipation with ample bandwith and mirrors, as well as being able just to use bots if you want to wait for an update, not open Steam every hour or so hoping that you won't get a plethora of error messages. If Valve didn't predict this kind of traffic from cs updates, then that's their fault, I mean, they've already had.....how many updates released so far in the history of cs, they can base traffic activity from the past. If Valve wants to shove steam down our throats, fine, but why won't they give the individuals who don't prefer Steam a stand alone cs?

You try and see who did the better job of the two, okay 'fag'?

As for offline play, obviously YOU NEED TO BE OFF LINE. For those wondering, disconnect your ethernet launch steam you'll get this

                Select off line.

DONE you have off line play.

I was thinking about this verification e-mail dealie, and it'll most likely to be used when you purchase something through Steam as they can e-mail you a reciept. Also, it could be used to send out new update info, and also another use would be to e-mail people who have been caught cheating, so people can see how/why they were caught.

no, please, just tell me something valve did correctly.

you'd thing valve would already know the tools of the trade after about 15 steam downtimes

i dont care if your fed up with steam or u liked 1.5 better...i could give a rats ass....but what im trying to say is that this is the place to voice your own individual opinions and that is good...Its all about hearin different people take different stances on different topics...right now i cannot even connect to steam in order to dl the updates and i seriously dont really care..i love cs...but im not mad in the least....but back in the day when i would try to dl and have the dl box tell me cs would be done in 15 hours i was much more upset...i think steam is the greatest thing ever to happen to cs and even though many if not most will strongly disagree i see its long term affects being tremendously beneficial to cs and the community behind it

"Error, user ID already in use on this server"

when it's only the one person in there

and me and my friend get the error

                            Actually, they couldn't do anything:
                            Greg Coomer posted...

This morning at about 8:30 PST, Steam was hit by a distributed denial of service attack. For about two and a half hours, Steam and its games were unavailable to users. We have since fixed the problem, and player numbers have returned to a normal state.
So they were attacked....and that's the reason for today's downtime

You'd think you would actually know how to spell. GG. And as stated it was not their fault.

I have hardware issues with playing online and I really want to play 1.6 offline. Is there a way to full download the client WITH the update? Im tired of playing 1.5
