Just sounds like an unprepared tournament. Nothing more. Maybe next year will be better.

Yes, I agree. CS Players are dipshit asshats. But I'll start trying to be a better person.

Steam owns... I've NEVER had ANY problem with it. I dont know wtf u guys are talking about. Illegal operations? Never seen one on my system. Its something on your end not steam's.

It's pretty damn awesome for being FREE
So is ASE. Well you can use it for free even though it whines every 7 days about registration. Anyway, 10000x better than the server browser

Valve still makes patches for CS because they still support it. What do you mean by all these changes? Nothing has changed dramatically in the CS during Valve's involvement with the mod. I don't think anything has been improved or drastically changed that would warrant an expansion pack.

Valve took over CS so they could publish it as there own game and make more money off it. You can't download CS retail for free. CS retail contained training missions and the fake gun names. I don't know the details of why there is a retail and a mod version of CS.

If you haven't realized, CS 1.6 is somewhat of a beta test for Steam before it hits the prime-time with HL2 and its mods. Remember all the difficulties that occurred on the release of 1.6 and Steam. Now think if Valve didn't release Steam until the release of HL2. Depending on how Steam was implemented, it could cause ruin for HL2 even if the game itself was decent.
so you are saying youd still play cs that was released when valve took over? hell, just the move to 1.6 would have been an excuse for an expansion.

i think you are a bit confused as to teh difference between retail and mod aswell. the difference with steam is non existant, period. the training mission included can be downloaded for the mod version. the train mission itself was a joke. when i played through it i had never played an fps before and it taught me basically nothing.

In the comment that was said 'Since when was it Valve's responsibility to be Big Brother and know about every major tournament.' I personally think that they took that responsibility when they released steam and made it Internet dedicated and not be able to have a stand-alone LAN version of it. Understandably that some LAN events aren't known, but when it's the level of CXG or CPL when there are huge prizes, they should know the dates, especially if it has a lot of sponsors that will look at LAN events not knowing if a new release will come out and destroy the event completely and have some crazy cs players go postal because they can't play their most favorite game. They can't have things like this happen too much, especially when esports in a very vulnerable spot in it's development. Blame can't be put on any one person/company, CXG should have approached valve saying 'uhhhh, we have a huge LAN event, is there anything you guys can do to make it run as smooth as possible', and valve should have released that standalone version of steam so people can run LAN events without having to worry about a new release that can put all gaming to a halt, and have some CS player whip out a gun and start pistol whipping the organizer of the event.
