Really? I never even heard that you would be unbanned by VAC, but seriously. Zips, your attitude is really annoying. Your bias is just unbearable.
Wow, it was known for a while before hand that in ordering Half-Life 2 you'd get a new ID.
It was stated that if you were banned in the 1.6 days or earlier you would be unbanned if you purchased Half-Life 2.
Put 2 and 2 together, it's not that hard to realize you'd get a new ID.Comment

An attitude of having common sense and actually reading what's been said about pre-sales?

Actually, I didn't know that either. It's possible that I read it and forgot about it though, because it really doesn't affect me. But I really don't remember that popping up anywhere.

if you think about it, i paid 60 bucks for the silver package, so i got at least 5 games for that 60 dollars. soooo.. .60/5 = 12. so 12 bucks for HL2, 12 bucks for HL1: source, CS:S, DOD:S and HL2: DM. plus the back catalog.
even if say, i never play HL1: source or HL2: DM and DOD:S isnt out yet, thats still 30 bucks for HL2 and CS:S..which is half of what i paid for D00M3...which i never finishedComment

Even if they used common sense it wouldn't be an issue.
What people and the article are trying to say, Zips, is that Valve should have made more of an effort to make their paying customers aware of this situation. There is a problem when you have to "browse through the Steam boards to find it".
Now, those two packages said it comes with the old games. You'd have to think to yourself, "Self, if this package comes with those games as well, and I already own them on my current account, maybe I should create a second account!" Eureaka! I think he's got it!
That line of thinking too hard? Well maybe "Self, hmm... I already own all of these old games, I'm buying them again, and if I were to do that with a new CD I'd get a new ID as well. Perhaps doing that online when I buy a completely new package with all the old games will also cause the same effect!" Eureaka!
Two different scenarios that took all of 30 seconds to rationalize though. It's not exactly rocket science, despite how many of you make it out to be.
Maybe Valve should have made it painfully clear, but a little common sense goes a long way. Of course, we need warnings advocating the dangers of "CAUTION: CONTENTS ARE VERY HOT" on cups of coffee, so I don't put too much stock on human instincts any more.Comment

hah.. i was told the same thing about the WON network for people who liked 1.5 and didn't like 1.6, it was known from the begining that with the release of 1.6, 1.5 is destined to death.
actually no, and you're post will be removed.
anyway, the community isn't being forced to move. 1.6 is still supported to an extent, although anybody with any $ and a brain should already have CZ. for those of you with crap gfx, play CZ, if not, CS:S.
Same thing with with 1.6, now that CS:S im sure valve will work harder on things that have to do with source rather than 1.6, so its somewhat obvious that cs1.6 is prolly going to die, just a matter of time.
In a way, anyone who is serious about CS will have to move to source, partly b/c CAL is going to change.. and its just a matter of time before CAL-O changes as well
And anyone with a brain would have known not to buy CZ, as it IS basically the same cs1.6 with new graphics, and within weeks of CS Source being released, if my numbers are correct there were about the same amount of CSS and CZ servers, and there are about 10,000 more Source players, so where do u think ppl are moving?Comment
