Top players there can make $100,000 a year. Some gamers even have Elvis-like followings.



But gamers like Tahir Zafar say they are not so interested in money and fame.



Mr Zafar is a member of a sponsored British team, Four-Kings Intel. They spent up to 10 hours a day preparing for the Las Vegas tournament.



"Start of a brand new year, and you're getting paid to come to Vegas, and we're just having a wicked time," said Mr Zafar.

This was a good article that because it is from the BBC, should help the esports community. I am glad they didn't emphasize the whole failure of the event, cause that would have hurt esports even more.

Well it's true though. There are some (luckily very few) people out their who treat some of the top players like royalty.



Anyway, nice article overall, but it felt like he didn't really know how to end it properly so he just stopped writing. Seemed kinda weird to me. Anyway yeah, nice. I didn't know that some people got that much cash.... well, now I can see why people like HeatoN play CS so much ^_^

They did'nt mention the mission objectives, which is more important then wiping each other out. Due to the recent money changes you get more money by completing objectives.

It's a light article about the CXG not speciffically counter-strike, what the hell are you bitching about? They just summed up the point of the game in a sentence for the people who don't know what it's about. The BBC web site is a very popular mina stream news site, not a gaming site.



The point of the game is to try and take each other out over a series of virtual maps. There are of course other objectives too but then why didn't the writer go into detail about each weapon, why didn't they describe each map in pedantic detail and why didn't he mention the history of CS and all the varied people who play it! It wasn't a review of the game for god's sake.
