Counter-Education

UKTerrorist has recently posted an article entitled "CS and Education", which as the title suggests, is primarily about both the positive and negative effects the wonderful and beneficial Counter-Strike has on the evil and dreaded education.

The negative effects don't come in till college in my opinion, the huge influx of independent work that you aren't used to pit against a routine of playing cs every night is a tough battle. When my AS results came it was obvious that cs had won. Now in my second year of college and two re-sits on the horizon I have to make up for that year. This year my cs had completely disappeared and I was all the better for it. Let's hope it is seen in my upcoming results.

The article is interesting to see personal experiences from another CS player on this matter, which you can check this out right now in fact.

All i can say is i know CS screwed me school wise but not many people can beat me at my school bragging is the best :)

i thought it was a good articule but i didn't like the way they said cs was the cause... because if you stop playin' Cs you will probably just find another game when you have a bit to much free time.

Yeah, CS is popular enough to be the main target for these kinds of things, but it certainly isn't the only culprit.

I think part of the idea behind CS affecting your grades, in the more extreme circumstances, is in the concept of addiction. Basically losing your desire to spend time on anything aside from whatever you're finding enjoyment in. For some people, it's drugs, gambling for others, and judging from things like this, or the Everquest widows' support groups, one would pretty easily add certain computer games to that list.



Yeah, ultimately you need to control yourself, keep your priorities in line, and have your fun after your work is done. Some people just lose their ability/will to do so more easily than others do, unfortunately.
